13th June 2024:
We have been coming to Woodlea for several years now and love it. The cottage has everything you could need, tv, dvd, washing machine, dryer, dishwasher etc and is always very well kept and very clean. Angela and Robbie are excellent hosts. The cottage is situated in Brodick which is where the ferry docks so you don’t have far to travel if you don’t have a car. It has amazing views out over the bay and Brodick Castle.
Tips:There is so much to see and do on Arran so it just depends what you want to do. Personally we prefer the East side of the island - the West is more rural and not as populated. If you like walks, our personal favourites are Glen Rosa, Glen Sannox and Glen Ashdale falls. At Glen Rosa you have the chance to see eagles soaring across the valley. The Blue Pool is also at Glen Rosa for those who can brave having a dip in icy cold water. If you like a challenge then try a climb up Goat Fell. Glen Ashdale leads to a beautiful waterfall at the top. Beaches, our favourites are, Kildonan, Sannox bay and the little beach in Brodick that takes you right round the bay to beside the castle. If you like rock pooling, Cordon beach is good for that. The other one we like is more pebbles but it is the setting - North Sannox, it has a large grassy area which leads down to the beach but the back drop to this is an amazing Mountain view. There is also a walk along from this area up to Lochranza. There is also pony trekking at North Sannox - we have done this quite a few times and it is very well organised. Our favourite places are Whiting Bay, Corrie, Brodick, Lamlash and Lochranza. We have eaten in lots of places but our favourite is Mara at Corrie. They go out fishing in the morning and then cook dishes depending on what has been caught. The food is always out of this world. It is very informal and not many tables as it is only small but you can take your food away. The Douglas Hotel, Brambles Seafood and Grill (on the Auchrannie resort), The Shore, Corrie hotel, Little Rock cafe all do great food. There are plenty of coffee shops dotted around. If you like golf there are several courses. We have visited the Lochranza brewery and its sister brewery at Lagg - both are with a visit. The Heritage museum in Brodick is also worth a visit. If the weather isn’t great you can book to use the swimming pool at the Auchrannie resort. There are loads of lovely little shops dotted around. There is an app called Arran Online which is worth downloading as it gives you current information on weather and the ferries but it also has information about things to do and where to eat. We try to visit Arran every year and the one thing we do is make a plan of what we want to do on what days and where we want to eat. We do this as there is so much to fit in.

We have visited Arran many times and have realised that Woodlea is the best place for us. Conveniently in Brodick, yet away from the bustle, with great views of the bay and Goat Fell, Very comfortable, amazing power shower and very well appointed.
Tips:We've enjoyed Fisherman's Walk to The Beach Gin Bar, crazy golf, walking through woods to Lamlash, walks at Sannox and Whiting Bay waterfalls, Machrie Stones, both distilleries, golf at Brodick and Machrie. Best food the Drift Inn in Lamlash. Good cafes at The Byre and Lamlash pier.

We loved our stay and would happily return to the island and this particular self catering cottage. The cottage is lovely since being very tastefully refurbished a couple of years ago. It is near all the amenities of Brodick and makes a trip to the island very easy.
Tips:Be careful of the Drift Inn in Lamlash - one of my friends got food poisoning from undercooked fish there. Otherwise we cooked our own food. Pick a good day weather wise to hike Goatfell and enjoy the epic views. We also went to Thunderguy/gay to hike to the loch and it was great. Holy Island is great yet different. The distilleries are wonderful to visit also. The locals are lovely. Little Rock Cafe is excellent for lunch or indeed something lighter.

Our hosts Angela and Robbie are lovely and very approachable and caring towards our welfare. They are always available to help and answer any questions we might have. We have stayed at Woodlea twice and always look forward to visiting again.
Tips:In Brodick there are many eateries such as The parlour for pizza and ice cream, A Chinese take away, A bakery, The Rock Cafe with home style food that is family and doggy friendly. The Douglas Hotel has a restaurant and bar you can book. If you take the Fisherman's walk you can visit the Cheese Factory, Arran Arowmatics, Janies cafe, the Wineport cafe and the Arran Brewery, wonderful craft shops and The Brodick Castle and gardens. There is also a local bus that travels around the island if you don't have a motor that can take you to most of the villages. All of which are within walking distance from Woodlea!

Quick response to any queries, easiness of booking. The cottage is clean, warm and has a great views over the bay towards Goatfell. Beds were comfy too. We had a great time, thank you.

The cottage is well equipped, cozy and warm. I had the opportunity to meet The owner, Angela who was friendly and very accommodating. The back garden and deck are lovely and although it was a bit windy our pug Buttons loved to run around in it. The views are stunning and all the rooms were comfy with lovely decor. We will definitely visit Woodlea again.
Tips:Woodlea is located in Brodick so there are plenty of amenities available. The Parlour for pizza and even Chinese if you fancy it. The Douglas is a great place to eat as well. You can walk to everything and get a local bus to visit other parts of the island from there too.

Check Thier page for which day. Not forgetting the array of pies, filled rolls and other goodies from Woolies the bakers in the village. Have sampled them all. Plenty of lovely walks around Brodick. We had another fantastic stay at Woodlea. Only couple of things we would say, being hyper-critical..., you could consider a smart TV (the size is fine but access to Netflix etc would be great) and the kitchen/dining cutlery could be renewed and maybe get a pizza cutter. We've stayed at Woodlea a number of times and love the cottage and the setting. Let us know if you ever intend to sell as we would be interested! Thanks

We have stayed at this cottage several times over the years and come back because we know what we can expect. Angela and Robbie are fantastic hosts and will sort out any issues you have or help you in any way. The cottage is warm and inviting and has all the facilities you would have at home to make you feel relaxed and comfortable.
Tips:We prefer the East side of the island as it has more going for it. If you like climbing there is the challenge of Goatfell or the less intimidating Glen Ashdale falls beside Whiting Bay. There are plenty of picturesque walks but two of ours are Glen Rosa and you might see the Golden Eagles and Glen Sannox. There are plenty of golf courses for those who like to play golf. Beasches - we like Sannox Bay for its golden sands or Córdon beach for some rock pooling. Mara restaurant is well worth a try - using the catch of the day so the menu changes every day.

We've stayed at Woodlea before, andd returned this year to find it has been refurbished. Now even better for comfort and convenience. A minor malfunction of the dvd player was immediately dealt with, by the installation of a new player. Hope this didn't divert Robbie from his mountain rescue duties.
Tips:The Brodick Brasserie, folk music at Crofters, crazy golf on the sea front, walk through the woods to Lamlash. All on our doorstep. Furher afield, the new distillery at Lagg is in a stunning building; Shiskine and Corrie are wonderfull, picturesque golf courses.

Tips:Lots of fab walking. The scenery was out of this world. Glen Rosa was a lovely walk. Also, seal watching along the beaches was a bonus. The Drift Inn was fantastic for seafood and the staff couldn't have been more helpful. We also visited Gigha that was magical.

Sixth time I've stayed at Woodlea and still pure class. Far too big a property for just the two of us but toffs are careless, as they say. Looking forward to seeing how the winter refreshment project works out.
Tips:A great walk actually starts just along from the cottage and takes you into Lamlash. You can even make it a bigger one by walking over the Clauchland Hills to the Iron Age fort and then into Lamlash. For food in Brodick, Crofters and Douglas Hotel are both top class, and the Ormidale Hotel is great too (and they have quizzes!)

We enjoyed our stay . Weather on the whole was really good . It’s lovely to sit out on the decking and relax , the views are excellent of Goatfell and the sea .The house it’s self is ideal as a base for your holiday . It is in a quiet and peaceful area ,but is also so close to the centre of Brodick . The house is in good condition . This is our second visit and will definitely return. My one comment of suggestion would be a bigger fridge please , the existing one is very much on the smaller side of any other holiday home I have stayed in which is not ideal , with a small freezer box only .
Tips:Arran is a lovely island . It is ideal for walkers with plenty areas to explore and wonderful views .

We have just returned from a fabulous week in Woodlea cottage. Angela was extremely helpful before our trip with regards to Covid for travelling on the ferry and the changing timetable etc. She was informative and helpful In every aspect. The cottage is cosy, comfortable and clean.
Tips:Woodlea is in a really good location with a lovely outlook to the sea and the ever changing image of Goatfell which was stunning when the sun was shining. It is located a short walk from the coop and many choices for meals including crofters who do superb takeaway food. We had sea bream and ribeye steak as takeaway and it was as good as dining in. We feel it is very good value for money.
Tips:There are a lot of outdoor activities to do, walks (Goatfell, Glen Rosa, Glenashdale Falls, Arran coastal walk), beaches, rockpooling. I've stayed here 5 times now and will do so again - even during a virus pandemic we were still made to feel like everything was just as usual. The view is to die for. It's only ever me and my wife but it would be great for a family too.
Tips:The Fisherman's Walk is a nice easy walk along the shore if you're not into the serious stuff. The Ormidale Hotel is excellent for pub food and Auchrannie resort is only minutes away by foot if you fancy something fancier. The Brodick Bar is supposed to be good too although I never go there as I don't like the owner.

Enjoyed our stay at Woodlea. Cottage was clean, well equipped with everything we required. The fully enclosed garden was great for our dogs. Having a view of Goat Fell made our stay even more special. With all the uncertainty surrounding the coronavirus Angela reasured us that the cottage had been cleaned to a very high standard so we were able to relax and enjoy our holiday. Thank you Angela.
Tips:Things were starting to get back to normal during our time on Arran. We would recommend the Heritage Museum where we had a lovely lunch. The Chocolate shop in Brodick is brilliant. Brodick castle gardens. Glen Rosa is a spectacular walk which is on mostly level track. Kingscross walk takes you through an open area of cut grass ideal for dogs to have a good run. Beautiful cottage with everything you need for a stay on Arran. Perfectly positioned just a few minutes walk from Brodick centre, you can access shops and cafes/restaurants without driving. The Brodick Bar is just round the corner for a drink/meal and the Post Office a few yards down the hill from there. The views from the cottage are simply stunning with Goat Fell looming large and Brodick bay. Lovely garden and raised decking where you can sit and take it all in. Woodlea is an amazing find and we will be back. Can’t recommend it highly enough.
Tips:On this occasion visited with my daughter and 7 year old grandson. Highlights were swimming at Auchrannie Spa Resort, Crazy Golf on the sea front and jumping in the sea at Kildonan fully clothed (in February!!) The Drift Inn at Lamlash is our favourite place to eat with superb food and a blazing open fire. Try the Arran Gin - expensive but worth it. We also ate at Cruize restaurant at Auchrannie and had fish and chips from Hooked and Cooked, the chippy at the harbour. Best fish and chips we’ve ever tasted. Closes at 8pm so be warned as we were disappointed the first time we arrived at 8.20!! We had a Chinese takeaway instead which was excellent and also a short walk from the cottage. Walked up to Brodick Castle which is beautiful and has a great Adventure Play Park for the kids but sadly wasn’t open in February much to my grandson’s disappointment. Try Cafe Thyme for a lovely bowl of soup and some lunch/coffee and cake. It’s situated close to Machrie on the North side up the hill next to the Arran sheepskin shop. Wonderful food and tasty Turkish pides which are similar to pizza but better according to the grandson. Another highlight of the trip was pony trekking at Sannox - such a lovely experience and the views over the sea were stunning. Remember to visit Arran Arromatics and the Island Cheese Shop next door, both are a wonderful assault on the senses!! I could wax lyrical forever but I will just say this - visit Arran - you won’t regret it. I’ve been visiting for 20 years, sometimes twice a year, and I never tire of it. It’s my favourite island in Scotland by far. Once you’ve been you will always return.

Lovely comfortable cottage with stunning views of Goatfell. Spotlessly clean and with everything you require for a relaxing break on my favourite Scottish island. Stayed here for a week with my daughter and grandson and we just loved it. So close to all amenities and yet very quiet and peaceful and so cosy and warm. Reasonably priced and loads of space with beautiful garden. All in all a fabulous week with some glorious weather and Woodlea was just perfect for us. I would recommend unreservedly.
Tips:Try the Drift Inn in Lamlash - we ate there 3 times. It’s only a 3 mile drive - in fact we walked it one day via the back road just up from Woodlea. Superb food and wonderful ambience with cracking open fire. Have an Arran gin prepared their way with grapefruit and rosemary - developed quite a liking for it!! Finished up our stay with their delicious Sunday Roast. Highly recommended.

7th October 2018:
We had a great time at Woodlea Cottage. It was bright, clean and comfortable. The kitchen was well equipped and we had no problem cooking most of our meals in the Cottage. It was a great location in Brodick so we could walk to many local sites, stores and hikes. But was also a great base for traveling to other parts of the island. And the view of Goatfell out the back, was the icing on this cake! There had been an issue with the front door, but it didn't really affect us at all, as it was just as easy for us to use the back door. Nevertheless, our hosts had the front door fixed before the end of our stay.
Tips:If you looking for traditional music check out the sessions in the Ormidale Hotel on Sunday nights, and The Brodick Bar on Tuesday nights.

This was the fourth time we've stayed for a week at Woodlea so that probably says it all. It's spacious, clean, nice view from the back decking and handy for exploring the wonderful island of Arran. Top class and hopefully I'll be allowed back in another 2-3 years time.
Tips:Ormidale Hotel for weekend discos and quiz nights during the week.

Great location, superb views, comfortable cottage with all mod cons. This was our third successive year at Woodlea and I'm sure we'll be back.
Tips:Get up in the hills and remember that there's a lot more than just Goatfell. Use the bus to enable you to start and finish walks at different points. Arm yourself with a timetable - while they're fairly infrequent on some routes they are reliable.

House absolutely excellent. Loved it and really appreciated you helping us out. A very minor thing which didn’t take any of the shine off but the potholes on access road are going to need some attention soon. As I say though had a great time and would definitely book again.
Tips:We really enjoyed Corrie beach. A stop at the bakers in Blackwaterfoot is a must - a hidden gem! Fish&chips from hooked and cooked eaten on the picnic tables at Brodick!

15th April 2018:
The cottage is beautifully presented in a great location 5 minutes walk from the front. The views are great from the sitting room and kitchen, you can see the bay, the castle and Goatfell. The cottage is spacious and cosy Angela was so welcoming, and her artwork sums up the island with beautiful colours and style. There is one of her pieces in the hall and on the table mats, which was a lovely touch. We highly recommend this cottage and plan to return.
Tips:There is a walk to Lamlash straight up behind the cottage. You walk back along the track, and then turn left up the main track. It eventually turns into a path through the forestry. we took a detour signed right to a carpark, and then turned right into a beechwood (not signed yet as still in the making) and through an archway into a spiral maze. Great with the kids. The adventure playground is great at Brodick castle, although the castle itself is closed in 2018 but cafe, gardens and play area still open. We also drove over The String and walked up to the Machrie stone circles. This is worth doing as there are half a dozen stone circles on the walk as well as the main event. Go to the Thyme Cafe at The Old Byre visitors centre afterwards in Machrie. Fantastic food and fab play area for the kids as well as amazing views. We also saw an otter and seals a few miles north of Machrie. We saw the otter on a rainy day and the seals on a dry day. Although you can also see seals from a pull in just past entrance to Brodick Castle going North. And of course, visit Angela's gipsy hut in her garden to see her fab artwork. She was great with the kids telling them how she had got into Art.

Stayed for a week in this lovely cottage with fantastic views over the bay and across to Goatfell. Owners have thought of everything you could possibly need. Well laid out. Well equipped. So comfortable.
Tips:Brodick bar and brasserie at bottom of road food excellent worth paying a bit more for. The fiddlers excellent food and great venue to enjoy local and visiting musicians. Need to book table for 7.30pm to have it for rest of night. Pier Cafe in Lamlash do amazing cakes and scones. Enjoyed many beautiful walks using Walks in Arran book. Walks for all not just the super fit. Lots of shops selling local and original goods in Brodick.

A Fabulous location, right on the doorstep for Brodick main street, where most of the shops, eateries and bars are, a well-equipped bungalow where the owners have considered all needs and requirements. The owners are on hand if needed. The dogs were made welcome too as they were in most of the locations we stopped at on the island. Value for money and I would definitely recommend Woodlea and stay there again myself.
Tips:The island is beautiful, lovely walks from Sannox to North Sannox, Whiting bay to Kingscross point are petty easy going, a bit more strenuous were Glenashdale falls and Kings Cave. Fiddlers bar is friendly but best to book meals in advance and The Ormidale hotel serves good food in huge quantities! Over at Pirnmill, The Lighthouse is very good and take your own alcohol. Eco savvy, Janelles, Arran Active, Arran Aromatics,ARCAS charity shop all good shops to have a look around and grab bargains and gifts. It has been our 5th visit to Arran and I am sure it won't be our last.

We enjoyed a fantastic holiday on Arran and Woodlea was the perfect place. Wonderful views of Goatfell and ideally located for all amenities. We would love to return.
Tips:Take a stroll along Brodick Beach to the Wineport near the Arran Distillery, have a wee lunch and back. Also, the Douglas Hotel has fantastic views if you manage a window seat and their fish and chips are not to be missed! Fiddlers is also a great place for a drink and meal. If you head up to Blackwaterfoot then the Kinloch Lodge Hotel does fine beer and food too.

Tips:Easy access to Brodick as well as walks to the Fairy Glen. Extremely dog friendly island and so many places to walk. Brodick Bar down the hill is very good and right at hand. So many places to visit; places to photograph and walks to enjoy.

Angela welcomed us to the cottage and was only a phone call away if needed, she was very helpful with a few queries we had. This was appreciated.
Tips:We arrived at the beginning of the school easter holiday and my son asked if we could do the trip to holy isle, unfortunately there were none. Was a bit disappointed that balmichael visitor centre was also shut but these did not stop us having a lovely holiday. Plenty of walking, glenashdale falls, king's cave and numerous beaches.Kids found a rope swing across the small river close to the start of glenashdale falls walk, even made mum do it, although hubby had to pull me back in! Also did fishing and husband even managed to cycle round the island.

Our first visit to Arran and Woodlea was the perfect base from which to explore the island. The private enclosed garden was a delight, much enjoyed by Ruby our Airedale, and we were able to enjoy breakfast outside a couple of times - amazing for October! The cottage is cosy and very peaceful, with a fabulous view of Goatfell and part of Brodick Bay. We were able to leave the car at home most days, walking from the door in many different directions.
Tips:We highly recommend Fiddlers in the bay for excellentt meals at any time, including breakfasts. The friendly staff and atmosphere created by live music in the evenings will live on in our holiday memories. We also enjoyed the Brodick Brasserie just down the hill which provides a warm welcome and good food. Shorties is worth a visit for excellent coffees and divine homemade shortbread and the The Wineport is also very good - it's name is a bit confusing as it is essentially a tearoom/brasserie (cosy with open fire, extensive menu and home bakes). The bus service is excellent and a good way to travel round the coastline enjoying the views, stopping off to walk en route and the drivers seem happy to drop passengers off wherever they request. The Fisherman's walk across the bay towards Brodick Castle is delightful and a lovely way to start a walk up Rosa Glen or Goatfell.
