Thoroughly enjoyed our time at Belvedere Cottage - Arran is a lovely evening place and Brodick a great base

Tips:

Had great meals at the Douglas Hotel bistro and the 1862 At Auchrannie .

Always available if I have any queries (which is not often) and always helpful when I do!

Tips:

Visit Brodick Castle and Glen Rosa and the Heritage Centre all within easy walking distance, if able to do so. These places can be accessed by bus except for Glen Rosa which has a parking facility at the campsite (this will considerably shorten the walk from Brodick and avoids walking along the open road, after Fishermen's Walk).

Wonderful little cottage, right next to the Ferry terminal and close to Co-Op. It had everything we needed and Allan who looked after us was always around if we needed anything. Kitchen had everything we needed and the rooms were all clean, we all thoroughly enjoyed our stay and hope to return next year! Thank you!

Tips:

We booked the cottage for a running event, but going up Goat Fell is pretty spectacular. There are plenty of restaurants and pubs nearby to choose to eat from, and the cottage is also well equipped for you to cook your own meals too.

Although we have stayed in the cottage several times before this was our first time for many years. That we continue to return is due to our levels of satisfaction. The cottage is little and not what you might traditionally expect from a ‘cottage’. However it’s clean, modern, comfortable, well appointed and brilliantly located. We would definitely stay more often but the prices nave gone ups bit and we often only have one or two nights available.

Tips:

There’s so much to see and do from the cottage - all of Arran but the coop and The Douglas hotel are both within minutes walk. Watching both the ferries and Goat Fell come and go (weather permitting for both) from the window is very relaxing.

We received a warm welcome on arrival, sorry we did not see you to say goodbye. Enjoyed our short visit and the comfort of the cottage which was well equipped and in a good location.

Tips:

We only had two days on Arran, but managed to travel all over the island. The Heritage Museum and Castle in Brodick are well worth visiting. So many nice places and villages to make stops and have walks.

The cottage is fresh, spacious, & very clean. Excellent views from front windows both upstairs & downstairs. DVDs and CDs are available in cottage, as are players for both. Kitchen has excellent assortment of tools to prepare meals & comfortable bar that seats 4. Off street parking available. Cottage is secure with up to date locks on door and windows. HOT water with good force made baths & showers a great pleasure! Village of Brodick is small so all is within walking distance - visitor center, both green grocers, chemist, and several dining options. There is also a charity shop near the ferry with a delightful inventory of items. Cottage is quiet and peaceful place. Allan was friendly & accommodating - the perfect host. We look forward to returning.

18th September 2022:

Really enjoyed our week on Arran, my first visit back since an undergraduate geology trip to the island in March 1971. Managed to revisit the locations visited previously, probably appreciating them more this time around as I have acquired more knowledge over the intervening years. Allan was a great help to us both and he is an extremely interesting person, we would have liked to have spoken more. The cottage is well equipped with a family bathroom upstairs and an ensuite downstairs next to the double bedroom. The cottage could easily accommodate four and has a stair gate to help out visitors with young children. As a couple staying here, we had plenty of room, basically using the twin bedroom upstairs to store our luggage and spare warm clothing that we didn't need owing to the really good weather we had.

Tips:

If you are fit and active, climb Goatfell. We looked at it in all its glory from the cottage window for six out of the seven days we were there. As my wife had a hip replacement in May this was our first time away since the operation and decided attempting the climb might be a step too far! We did both the Glen Rosa and Glen Sannox walks which are well worth doing, we are aged 71 and 64 so don't feel it is only for youngsters! The walk around Drumadoon Point and King's Cave is another good trip. Aim to get back to the Blackwaterfoot golf club cafe before 4pm and have something to eat and drink there, it is to be recommended. Any trip to Arran for a person interested in physical geography and or geology wouldn't be complete without a trip up to Lochranza to visit Hutton's Unconformity. Read the signs, look up Arrangeopark online before arriving and download the PDFs to give yourself the best chance of making the most of your visit. For those not so keen on the physical landscape there are plenty of other places of interest, Brodick Castle being one. It is worth a visit and the grounds are well laid out. The cafe here is also good providing freshly made sandwiches. In Lamlash there is a hidden gem, the Arran Fine Foods Kitchen Shop with Jams, Chutneys, Mustards, Shortbread, Oatcakes (which are all produced locally), it also stocks kitchenware. Angie Robinson in the cafe at Brodick Castle recommended this place to us and we were not disappointed. Check out items for your store cupboard here before looking elsewhere! Both the Arran Butcher in Blackwaterfoot and the Arran Cheese Shop between Brodick Castle and Belvedere are worth a vist if you are self-catering. We always try to support local producers wherever we stay in self-catering accommodation. Janine's Cafe by the cheese shop is good value for money and worth the visit just to hear the three young girls who work there chatting and singing along to the songs as they work! If none of the above appeals to you. just drive around the island and marvel at the landscape and coastal views, you will not be disappointed. One thing to bear in mind though is that from our experience (during the second week in September) is that cafes seem to close at 4pm. Perhaps they stay open later in the summer months.

Lovely accommodation in a beautiful setting, and so convenient for the ferry and the supermarket. The views were great. Well equipped kitchen made self-catering a lot easier. Super comfortable bed. Particularly liked the quick and easy booking and communications system. Perfect week away! Thank you!

Tips:

My favourite walk was the waterfalls in North Sannox glen. Loved the distillery tour at Lochranza. Enjoyed learning about the geology of the island, and the dinosaur footprint at Kildonan beach. Local restaurants were a little out of our price range, but the supermarket everything you need. Saw red deer in North Sannox glen, red squirrels in the woods on the way to the Kings Caves and golden eagles above Lochranza distillery. Lots of basking seals past Kildonan beach.

Allan the Manager was a very friendly and welcoming guy and made our stay at Belvedere a great experience so much so that we plan to visit again next year and will definitely be booking to stay here again.

Tips:

Property is centrally located to the shops, bars and restaurants within the Brodick precinct and is within walking distance of Brodick Ferry Terminal. Bus Stops are a plenty and only a short stroll from Belvedere Cottage. There a various buses covering the North and South of the island that are able to take you to all the tourist attractions that the Isle of Arran has to offer. We travelled all the way from Australia to enjoy this beautiful island, it was absolutely fabulous and we will definitely be back!

The Belvedere cottage was a lovely quiet place to stay, very central within Brodick and ideal for some independence away from a B&B environment which is just what we were looking for, but with the manager on hand for any issues that arose.

The cottage is just a delightful place to stay. We had everything we needed, and even when there was a small hiccup on the second day, it was all sorted quickly and efficiently with a smile. The view of Goatfell and the bay are just breathtaking, and the cottage is a great base to get anywhrere on the island, and handy for the ferry.

Tips:

Phone The Parlour to order a pizza, and by the time you walk the five minutes to the bottom of the hill to pick it up it’ll be ready (and you beat the queue)! Our favourites include: In Brodick – Little Rock café for coffee, lunch and milkshakes, James’ chocolate shop, The Parlour for pizza and ice cream Near Brodick – Climb Goatfell, The Wine Port, Arran Brewery, massages at the Aspa at Auchrannie, 1869 for a treat dinnner Corrie – Seal spotting, Mara fish café for amazing fish and seafood lunch Lamlash – The Drift Inn for lunch or dinner, PHT for a good pint and whisky drams Kildonan – Seal spotting along the beach path Both distilleries have great visitor centres too

Received a warm welcome from Alan. Cottage is very comfortable/clean and set in a superb location. Picnic table in front garden is a great addition to soak up the priceless view, while enjoying a glass of wine. Only small comment to improve would be to have additional crockery, as sometimes an extra plate, cup etc is needed, especially if you"re making use of dishwasher there isn't enough to keep you going (reason for scoring facilities as 4) Had a wonderful stay and will definetly return and recommend to my friends.

Tips:

Brodick is a great base and ideal for accessing ferry obviously. Whiting Bay is worth a visit and doing the waterfall walk before stopping off at "Most' bar and restaurant for lunch is a must.

Tips:

The island walks are stunning...and plenty of maps to guide you. Lamlash Bay is stunning...a must to visit. The island generally seems to be suffering a lack of hospitality staff...many restaurants closed several days a week. Our meal at Auchrannie resort was very very good.

Wow! What a great cottage to stay in along with the amazing host, Allan. Everything was perfect and so comfy. The view of Goatfell and the beach was beautiful as were the sunsets. The cottage is well equipped and the beds are very comfy. There is a mini front garden with a picnic table where you can BBQ or just sit and grab some sun or read a book. Looking forward to staying there again. Thank you Allan and Chris.

Tips:

The cottage is centrally located in Brodick above the main Shoreline Road. Shops and eateries are within walking distance as is the ferry and the bus if you are travelling by foot. The Fisherman's Walk is our favourite and we always go to Janies for lunch and then stop in to the cheese factory and Arran Arromatics. On the way back we cut through the golf course to feed the ducks and swans and stop by the Heritage Museum for some interesting history before heading back to the cottage. There are many places to eat at like The Parlour for pizza an Arran ice cream. The Douglas is nice for lunch or dinner as is the Rock Cafe with fab food and a golf putt putt for all to enjoy. Stop at Woolies bakery for wonderful home made pastries and bread and don't forget to have some sweets at the Chocolate Factory! If you fancy a hike try Goatfell and on return you can grab a bite and a drink at the Wine Port Cafe. You can also wander up the hill to the Brodick Castle for a stroll through the magical gardens and the castle. We love it and this is only a wee taste of what you can see and do in Brodick alone! There is so much more to enjoy on the Isle of Arran.

Fantastic property in a great location. Spotlessly clean, COVID secure and really comfy beds. Plenty of room (& storage) for our group of 4 adults & 1 toddler - the safety gates & highcjair supplies were very welcome. Chris (owner) was very welcoming and came over to introduce himself to us, which is a nice touch. We will definitely consider booking this property again on our next visit :)

Tips:

Service and food in The Douglas is always great but this time we also ate at The Ormidale Hotel and Brodick Bar and these were also great. If you can, do as many of the walks you can - Goatfell and Kings Cave are favourites of ours but equally, a leisurely stroll along the front and the Fisherman’s Walk in the evening is always enjoyable. If not walking, a drive around the island takes a couple of hours and the views are stunning.

This wee bolthole is the perfect place to explore Arran from. The cottage had everything we needed, and the views of Brodick Bay and Goat Fell are breathtaking (especially at sunset). The location is so handy – a three-minute drive from the ferry ramp, and you can find everything you need in Brodick. We’ll be back again, especially for those views.

Tips:

Brodick has a great range of eateries and activities. Little Rock raises the bar for coffee and cakes, The Parlour will do you an excellent authentic pizza or indulgent ice cream, the Brodick Bar at the end of the road from the cottage couldn’t be handier for a drink inside or out, and if you want to splash out for a treat, the spa at the Auchrannie is unparalleled, and Scottish tapas at eighteen69 won’t disappoint. Outside of Brodick, Lamlash has stunning views and high quality pubs (The Drift Inn is one of our favourites). It’s a ten-minute drive or you can walk the three miles through the forest starting just a few metres down the road from the cottage. There are so many lovely walks around Arran, and Brodick is a fantastic base to explore from.

Centrally located with fantastic views of Brodick Bay and Goatfell behind it. The accommodation was spotless and in very good condition. The main double bedroom was spacious with an excellent en-suite. The twin bedroom upstairs was fine. A small issue with the upstairs shower, as the shower head was not on an adjustable rail. Otherwise excellent. Allan, the owner was welcoming and very helpful. Really well organised to deal with the Covid situation. Loved the place.

Tips:

The Brodick Brasserie is just at the bottom of the road. An excellent eating place, but better to book ahead. The Ormidale Hotel is further out - well worth a visit to sit in the huge glasshouse at the back and enjoy a beer or two. Brodick Golf Course is very close also, and nice to play. Brodick Castle is a must to visit, as well as The Arran Cheese Factory shop and Arran Aromatics, a short drive north out of Brodick. Loads to do and see on this island.

We have travelled to Arran for over 20 years. My son who had Autism recently returned home from his first trip without us and announced that, he loved his break in Arran. To know he can use the Belvedere cottage in the future for supported holidays without us. Is simply wonderful to hear.

Really enjoyed our stay, was a good comfortable base to enjoy Arran from. A couple of minor comments, the kitchen knives aren't particularly sharp and the grooves make it hard to cut with too. The upstairs bathroom shower holder isn't good enough to hold the hose for a shower. A washing machine would be a useful addition to the apartment. Appreciated the high chair for the little one, that makes a big difference!

Tips:

If you have a little one, the Playbarn at the Arrachnie resort is pretty good and it's only a 15 minute walk away. Also its a short walk down to the beach at Brodick and there is a reasonable playground there as well. The Old Byre on the other side of the island also has a big outdoor play area for kids which is good (provided the midges aren't out in force as it's in a rural location)

Sleeps 4-6 depending upon intimacy, warm, dry, all mod cons and looking out over one of the most beautiful views in the world.

Tips:

Brodick is (to me at least) surprisingly lively, even in February. Arran is wild, beautiful and quiet but also well-served for restaurants and pubs. I recommend the walk cross country by Strathwillan Burn to Lamlash where the view across the bay to Holy Isle is extraordinary as is the marmalade for sale in the coffee shop.

Driveway is small but you need to reverse on which can be awkward, but there is parking on the road. Excellent view from the property, which we will miss when we get home. All in all a wonderful relaxing holiday which i would recommend to any one.

Tips:

Little rock cafe on the beach front was excellent value for money, friendly and very helpful staff. The whisky distillery at lochranza well worth a visit. Would avoid cafe if you can. Slow service which doesnt help if youre on a timed tour to get to. Lamlash lovely place to visit.

Owner Response:

Good morning, I am disappointed to hear you required more towels during your stay and never once mentioned it to me when I asked daily is everything ok for you anything you need? They are in the cupboard up in the bathroom up stairs for you to help your self too. I wish you had said to me and they would have been provided like the extra bedding you asked me for, not once was I asked for new towels and would have happily provided them. To be fair whilst you guys were staying in the cottage the cottage did get messy with all the muddy boots from the golfing, the term self catering is to allow you the freedom of staying in your own wee house, cooking and cleaning up after yourself's is normal but if asked we would happily give it a clean for you. I did ask if you guys required anything each day I saw you and always aim to provide whatever you need. I appreciate your honest review but I feel as nobody said when I asked it is a bit unfair.

A great base from which to explore Arran. Close enough to all the attractions in Brodick but quiet too for a truly restful stay. Very welcoming and close at hand if we had encountered any issues. Very reasonably priced and although there were just the two of us the cottage could easily accommodate a family of four.

Tips:

The bars and restaurants are within walking distance so good if you want to have a drink. Fiddlers is great for live music and a good pint of Arran blonde! For food we preferred the Douglas hotel. On a wet morning the pool at auchrannie is well worth a visit. The bread at Woolleys is lovely and goes well with the local cheese. Everything was fantastic, house was so ideal for our family. Very child friendly as my 2 year old couldn't get her hands on anything she shouldn't be. Only thing that was wrong, and its a very minor thing is that the shower in the bathroom is very temper mental. It kept going freezing and then roasting, but everything else was spot on and we had another shower to use which wasn't like that and also the bath to use. Would definately come back and stay at belvedere cottage.

This cottage was modern, warm and had great view. The owner was next door and was very friendly but we hardly spoke to him because the cottage was perfect. Beds were very comfy, kitchen was was equipped. The local shops were near enough to nip to for provisions. We couldn't have asked for more. I would have given 5 for location if we were on the sea front but I did know this wasn't going to be the case before we booked. It was exactly as was described. Lovely view of the bay and Goatfell.

Tips:

We arrived without a car but managed to hire one on the island for £30 a day so we could use it to explore the island freely. We had forgotten to bring the paper part of our license but phoned the DVLA at the car hire place who confirmed our details.

This is our third stay at Belvedere Cottage in less than a year so that speaks for itself. Although the accommodation is one double and one twin room,in extra folding bed in the upstairs bedroom makes it perfectly manageable for a family of five. On this visit to Arran we were unable to take our car over as the ferry was fully booked so the location of Belvedere really came into it's own for us. It's literally a 5/10 minute walk from the ferry terminal, passing the co-op to stock up if required. The accommodation is very well maintained and has everything we would look for (including a dishwasher - and dishwasher tablets!). We'll be back.

Tips:

Everything in Brodick is within 5 minutes walking distance and Arran Aromatics, Arran Cheese company etc are also an easy, and lovely, walk away. We did some much longer walks directly from the cottage and it is entirely feasible to climb Goatfell, leaving from Belvedere. However it is hard to beat sitting in the living area of the cottage and gazing at Goatfell in all it's glory.

18th October 2012:

Very friendly and helpful.

Tips:

Nice shops in brodick, especially a shop called Red Door. Lovely walks and lots of places to drive too and just get out and walk or have a coffee and a cake. Very relaxing and nice places to eat. Had a bar lunch at the Douglas hotel in brodick, lovely and not too pricey.

16th September 2012:

A lovely cottage, ideally situated, close to Ferry and shops. A good base for touring the island.Very clean and well equipped. Comfortable beds. Warm and cosy. Friendly owners.Would definitely recommend Belvedere to our friends.

Tips:

Arran on a Plate serves delicious food. The coffee shop on the way up to Brodick Castle makes a good cappuccino and tasty scones. On the west coast, the golf club near Blackwaterfoot serves great lunches. We really enjoyed the trip around the distillery at Lochranza. Beautiful coastal walk from Blackwaterfoot to the King's Cave and beyond. Big thanks to Angus Lambie(Brodick Garage) who rescued us and repaired the car. Despite some inclement weather, we had a wonderful week sightseeing on this beautiful island.

Everything was great! We really appreciated all the careful touches like having a well chosen selection of books, the cards, good lighting, comfy beds, excellent plumbing. The only tiny detail was that the tin opener didn't work.
