1st October 2023:
Had a wonderful 2 night stay. The hotel is beautiful, homey & so comfortable. Our room had lovely fresh, calm, modern decor, with a stunning sea view. Delicious breakfast, friendly service.
Tips:We ate at the Shuric, a short walk from the hotel, on our 1st night, then The Glen Isle, in Lamlash, on the 2nd night. Both excellent & good value. The whole island is worth seeing, but personal favourites are: all of the beaches, Machrie Moor, a stroll on Fisherman's Walk to the castle, coffee & cake at Little Rock cafe.

A wee mention on the site for impaired mobility guests and the amount of stairs to upper floors would be useful. The staff were lovely, never more so than when I had a problem through the 1st night I stayed and they sorted the issue without a problem. The breakfasts were wholesome without the choice of food being overly complicated.
Tips:The Coffee Pot - about 3/4 mile on your left is a lovely wee cafe with great home baking and quite a good range of food on their menu.IMHO Arran is an island for fit and healthy walkers with full mobility as there is a good range of walks to be had not so much if you have mobility problems. You can traverse the whole island in a car.Not so much to see on the West of this island

Lovely building, fitted out to a very high standard, staff were there if you need them but not under your feet, from checking in to leaving it was faultless, I think even the worst underpaying game player from 4 in a bed would struggle to find a negative with this lovely well run establishment James

Nice guesthouse in a lovely town. The staff were really helpful and friendly, and our room had a beautiful view out to the sea. Great full Scottish breakfast in the morning was just what we needed to start the day.
Tips:As there was nowhere for dinner in whiting Bay we ate in Lamlash. Buses ran every hour or so (although probably worth checking times depending on the season). The staff at the guesthouse were very helpful looking up bus times for us.

The Burlington Guest House is a great place to base yourself for your holiday. The room we had was a see facing room with a great view. Plenty of tea and coffee room serviced well, towels changed 4 times during our 5night stay. Breakfast well cooked and nothing was to much trouble for the staff.checkin no problems Overall a enjoyable stay .
Tips:Plenty of places to see on the island, and a pub just down the road from the guest house. Nice coffee shop and a little store that also does coffee near by.

Perfect location. Rooms more than adequate. Staff very friendly and breakfast was great. Having read some previous not so good reviews about staff attitude to dogs at the premises I don't understand what the problems were. The staff were great with our 2 spaniels and were happy for us to leave them in the room while we had breakfast. All in all had a great time and would have no issues in recommending the hotel .

Tips:Bus stops within a few minutes walk but like everything on the island the service is laid back so buses run a liitle over schedule. Lamlash is only 3 miles away and there are plenty of bars and restaraunts, the best is the drift inn, food is amazing try to book ahead x

I would highly recommend staying here . Me and my husband booked 3 nights with our dog Mali . The room was so clean and spacious, decorated beautifully. Usually if we stay in a dog friendly accommodation we kinda expect it to be a little run down , but not in this bed and breakfast. We had the best experience with all the staff , nothing was a bother for them . All the staff were so welcoming and friendly. Ian really is a lovely host and has a excellent team working with him . The breakfast was unreal, I had a full vegetarian breakfast the 3 mornings it was delicious, my husband enjoyed the breakfast also he had full breakfast Scottish breakfast. I have stayed in arran a few times other places but this location and what’s on offer is definitely my favourite so far . We definitely would stay here again . Thank you guys for making our trip amazing.
Tips:Arran is a beautiful place with so much to offer . We traveled on the 30th December till 2nd January, we booked it all last minute so wasn’t sure what would be on New Year’s Eve etc . So much on new year we had a few options from the locals , everyone was just so friendly and telling us what was on . Next to the bed and breakfast you have scenery looking out onto the ocean and holly island in view it’s breathtaking. You can walk along the bay and do the waterfalls and giants grave , all in walking distance . We visited a pub/ restaurant at the bottom of the road called (MOST) dog friendly and food was delicious, again staff were amazing it also had a snug bar down stairs which dogs could also access. You can take the bus to lambash , pubs ,restaurants etc . Ian also owns the PHT restaurant in lamlash it was fabulous on New Year’s Eve it had a guitarist singer on . Buses were a bit limited due to the time of year but it was all easily explained on the time tables and the drivers are all so happy and relaxed nothing bothered them . The locals in arran are the nicest kindest souls I’ve came across in a long time . Arran has my heart will definitely be back again .

Highly recommend the Burlington Guest House and Duncan's restaurant there. Nicely decorated, comfortable rooms. Mine had a sea view that was breathtaking out over Whiting Bay. Duncan is a gem, providing personal touches and being an excellent chef. Breakfast was both delicious and beautiful. I would definitely stay here again with my family!
Tips:Reserve early for dinner at Duncan's. Don't look around. You won't find a better atmosphere or food! Horseback riding at Cairnhouse Stables on Blackwater Beach. Visit Brodick Castle - the property is massive and the setting is to die for. Take the hike back to King's Caves near Blackwater Beach. It's about 30 minutes each way (not the 2.5 hours it says). Brodick itself is nice, but a bit pricey and touristy. I would stick to the rest of the island and look for more wildlife next time. This is a true holiday island destination, not an island for focusing primarily on Scottish history or heritage.

I arrived late, around 7:15pm, after detouring during my days activities. Despite being short-staffed/finished for the day, my key had been left out along with breakfast options, meaning I could check in myself without delay, leave my things and make it back out for planned dinner arrangements. This was my second visit, and my room was just as impressive as before, although the added sea view this time made for great viewing of a 5am sunrise.

Really enjoyed my stay and would love to return and spend more time on Arran. The Guest House is really warm and welcoming, and the setting is beautiful. The room was great, just a slight problem with the shower, which I spoke to Duncan about, and it's clear that efforts have been made to sort this out to no avail. He was very courteous about the issue, and couldn't be more helpful about everything else,as well.
Tips:Just to get out and explore the area. I didn't have long enough. I also hope the Calmac ferries are more reliable once the new fleet has been delivered, though this is not your fault. It did put me off coming, but I'm glad I took the risk.

As other reviews have said Duncan and his staff go above and beyond to ensure all their customers enjoy there stay nothing was too much trouble I'll definately be back.
Tips:I enjoyed lunch in the shore cafe not far from the hotel which was also on the beach and had outside seating. The lunch was lovely. Lovely guest house with views from front across the Bay, I was in a room at the rear, but the room was adequate and comfortable for my 2 nights. Lovely breakfast ( way too much in fact as my appetite seems smaller) and Duncan was friendly and helpful, it would be great if the restaurant re-opens as not many places to eat in Whiting Bay in the evening and not having a car was relying on buses. I would return though again,
Tips:I didn't see much of Whiting Bay during the day as was out and about but it's a nice place, a small shop that sells provisions and coffee !!!! Nice walks along the shore and I ate in Most at Eden further down the village which was nice and reasonable, I believe that the other restaurant (not sure of the name) The Shore? opens only late in the evening. Buses are fairly frequent depending on the day and it is possible to go to Lamlash for more choices to eat. I would recommend a car for getting around and then more freedom to stop as missed a lot just going on the bus, Lochranza had nothing open at all but I believe Easter is better there, was a wee sandwich shop only which wasn't open on the day I was there, no hotel, pub or shops, nice views, and few walks, there is a Distillery which I didn't go to. Blackwaterfoot is more bustling with a few shops selling food a cafe at the golf course ( again shut the day I was there) but the Hotel has coffee, and food but you need to pre-book. All in all, is a lot to see and do if you don't expect it to be a busy place and not over commercialised which is good if you like McDonald's and KFC, etc you will be disappointed !!!

We received a very warm welcome at this lovely Guest House. The owner went the extra mile to ensure your stay is perfect. The breakfast were delicious and you did need not any more food during the day. The view from our bedroom was so picturesque.
Tips:There are a lot of walks to do from the guest house. The island has a lovely coastal walk as well as many interesting archaeological sites. If you are feeling energetic Goat Fell is a fantastic walk. Just be aware the ferry service is unreliable.

Spent the new year here - clean, spacious rooms in a lesser-seen and extremely scenic location on the island of Arran. Friendly, helpful staff and a high-quality breakfast in the morning, with effective Covid mitigations in place for optimal safety. Couldn't have gone smoother, honestly.

We had a lovely stay at the Burlington Guest House. Our twin room was really nicely decorated and clean. The bathroom was slightly run down and not to same standard as the room but it was clean and to be honest I think it was still acceptable giving what we paid for the room. It would have been nice to have some sugar and milk in the room for the coffee/tea. The staff member who served us at breakfast was really friendly and accommodating. The breakfast was also really good. Overall we had a lovely stay, thank you :)

Lovely room, felt like a suite. Wonderful views from room, dining room and frontage. Magnificent breakfasts. Staff very attentive and friendly. Easy access to beach (nice to fall asleep to the sound of the waves!) Really nice delicatessen only a few metres away. Very comfy bed and couch :)
Tips:Whiting Bay much quieter than Lamlash and Brodrick which was good for us. For eating, The Shore in Whiting Bay and Drift Inn in Lamlash are well worth a visit. Gardens at Brodick Castle lovely even in the rain - and look out for seals nearby. The climate is typically mild (rarely drops below 4 degrees). Even in November we had two warm, sunny days and only only one rain, but even that was warm, so pack for rain more than for cold. Lots of trees! Yay! Oh, and lovely swimming in Whiting Bay.

We certainly hope to return and highly recommend this great guesthouse

Very warm welcome with helpful suggestions about how to get the most out of our visit. Delicious breakfast. Lovely room, only one issue was the availability of hot water in the shower/ sink. We were at the very top of the house and the shower went from hot-cold-hot during every use (and at different times of day). I wonder whether there is insufficient pressure and if anyone else runs hot water elsewhere the flow is compromised. It didn’t matter to us but I imagine others would not appreciate cold showers!

Duncan and Katie were fab , nothing was too much trouble and Duncan's knowledge of the island was very helpful. The food in the Burlington was fantastic I HIGHLY recommend the fish pasta bake I really struggled to finish it. It was amazing. We booked the trip for our 37th wedding anniversary (we would normally go abroad)we were not sure what to expect but the scenery was beautiful and the sunset, WOW. We only spent 3 nights on the island, wish we had booked for longer. Only downside was the ferry disruption which spoiled our trip a bit.

Excellent 2 night stay in a lovely old building with superb views over the bay. Staff could not have been more helpful and the food was superb. We stayed in Room 10 on the ground floor. This large room has a huge triple window overlooking the bay. My wife has mobility difficulties. The room is not advertised as a room suitable for people with disabilities although the room and ensuite bathroom are not too bad in this respect. The icing on the cake would be to adapt the room and bathroom to full wheelchair standards which could be done with not too much difficulty and the provision of an option for a king or twin beds. We were very well looked after throughout our stay and we’re impressed with the customer service experience. We will definitely be back again soon 😁👍🏻
Tips:We travelled with car which gave us the ability to explore the island more inclusively. We visited for three nights but were able to visit the glenashdale falls (quite a hike with young child however well worth it), machri moor stones, we spent time at whiting bay beach which is on the doorstep of the Burlington, perfect location with children, we stopped at seal car park and seen dolphins and seals before visiting Brodick Castle (again great for kids), mini golf in Brodick was good fun, the Little Rock restraint which is right next to the golf do a delicious chicken butger! (Thank you Duncan for the recommendation!) The heritage museum was interesting and our daughter enjoyed that experience. We also visited Lochranza to pay a customary visit to the distillery (the Lochranza reserve a very good budget buy and delicious to drink) we bought a gorgeous limited edition and some gorgeous gifts to take home to our family. Overall a great place to visit. We absolutely fell in love with the island.

Where do we start?! We couldn’t recommend The Burlington enough. From start to finish in every aspect we loved the place. The staff were most welcoming on our arrival and throughout our stay. The food was of good quality, quantity, well priced and beautifully presented. We stayed on the ground floor with sea view, modern decoration and a good sized room. We had our dog with us too who was also made to feel very welcome. We cannot wait to be back at the Burlington, thank you Duncan and to all of you lovely staff too! Xx
Tips:For those who haven’t had the pleasure of Arran Whiting Bay is a good location with a couple of places to eat out as choice, although I’d highly recommend staying in for food! A few shops, putting green and a beautiful long beach.

maybe consider some background music at breakfast as the silence can feel a little awkward when only one or two guests in and people feel like they need to whisper? Side plates for toast and a seperate knife would be good
Tips:Definitely visit the shore restaurant and also the botanicals beach bar just outside brodick...very quirky

Very well run guest house with small but comfortable restaurant. Wonderful views over Whiting Bay. The Unique selling point being the great menu and food provided by your host Duncan and his staff.
Tips:Great walking, with superb scenery. So many special features, the friendliness of the bus drivers, the beautifully painted bus shelters. Don't bother with any other restaurant, Duncan's is the best around. Catch him whilst he's still there.

The place was very nice and clean and the staff was fantastic. The breakfast was very delicious. I was in a single room where the bed wasn't long enough (I'm 6,4) but I had a very good sleep. There was only one thing I'd change and that is the movement sensor light and fun switch in the bathroom. During the night it would have been better I can switch on/off the light manually as I had to wait like 20 min the light and fun to switch off (bit noisy) But everything else was perfect I enjoyed my time there so much. Thank you

Very clean and comfortable guest house run by a caring and competent couple Duncan & Katy. We were well looked after especially after the ferries were cancelled due to bad weather Duncan could not have been more helpful and arranged all changes for us.
Tips:The food in the Burlington was exceptional. I've been to a few good restaurants and Duncan's fare was as good as any of them. Did not expect such quality in a guest house. Not surprisingly the locals use both the restaurant and the take away service.

The guest house made us feel welcome and comfortable during our stay. The room and facilities where we'll looked after for the age of the property.. The food was exceptional and would regard as 4 to 5 class quality. Duncan the owner who is also a traditionally trained chef made remarkable dishes and the desserts were delicious. Looking right out the sea the views are stunning and the best location for a tranquil stay. Our party cycled around the island which is about 56 mile and Duncan gave us all the info we needed to do this. Although we didn't take this up we were offered packed lunches. Ideal spot to stay for walkers and cyclists and I would definitely go back. Short trip from ferry at Brodick and all the island is accessible from the property. My only constructive comment is that if the property had a bike store at the back to store bikes it would be easier to store after a long ride and sort the bikes out the next day. This could easily be achieved. Fantastic and enjoyed arran.
Tips:Distillery is not far away and the town of Brodick. Cycling walking and swimming. Goat Fell Arrans highest peak 20 mins away. Food and bars locally and bike hire in Brodick. The scenery is stunning and will be an unforgettable experience
