Lochside B&B

Blackwaterfoot
Tel: 01770860276
Lochside is a family run five bedroom purpose built B&B situated near the village of Blackwaterfoot on the West Coast of the beautiful Isle of Arran. The house stands alone on seven acres of land that includes two small lochs and extensive gardens with flowers, shrubs and mature trees which guests are welcome to use for taking a leisurely stroll around the grounds with the lochs a haven for wildlife including swans and ducks. Lochside is perfectly situated to witness uninterrupted sunsets over the Kilbrannan Sound towards the Kintyre Peninsula and on a clear day you can even see Ireland! The village of Blackwaterfoot is walking distance away so positions Lochside in a quiet, peaceful location but close to many attractions and amenities the area offers.

14th October 2019:

We received a very warm welcome from Marion on our arrival. She was very helpful with information about the b&b and accessing the local hotel where we were meeting family that evening. She even provided us with wine glasses and a corkscrew for our wine and a torch for our walk home later that evening. The room was spotless with fab views over to the loch and the Mull of Kintyre. We loved the fact there was a residents lounge although we didn't use it as our stay was quite short. My husband had some of the cake provided which was lovely. Overall we had a lovely stay and would definitely visit again.

Tips:

Wall to the village across the field took around 10 minutes, might be more difficult in the dark although Marion provides torches. We walked back via the road due to it raining earlier took about 20 mins.

The Lochside is by far the best B&B that my wife Nancy and myself ever stayed. The location and setting was absolutely perfect , you could not fault . Alan , Marion and Adam keep the place in great order and are perfect hosts . Big thanks to them for making our two night stay so great .

Tips:

If your looking for a quiet retreat for a few nights or more the Lochside B & B Isle of Arran is the place . The feeling of waking up to birds chirping in the mornings to amazing sunsets in the evenings . Just walking round the small lochs , with ducks , swans and well maintained grounds gives you a feeling of relaxation . Or just to sit in the summerhouse and enjoy the view looking across the Kilbrannan Sound to the Kintyre Peninsula . Perfect !!

We have stayed at Lochside three times now and it feels like home. Marion, the owner, is a lovely friendly lady and is very welcoming and knowledgeable about Arran. Room is comfortable and spotless as is the rest of the house. Breakfast certainly puts you on for the rest of your busy day and there is an afternoon tea just in case you feel a little peckish later! We cannot wait to return next year. Big thank you.

Tips:

f you enjoy golf Arran is the place to be as there are seven golf courses - our favourite is Shiskin which is a few minutes away. Shiskin club house also provides food up to a very high standard. The Lagg and Blackwaterfoot Lodge are also great to eat and not too far away. There are plenty of other restaurants on Arran to enjoy. The new Lagg Distillery is also worth a visit. Plenty of good walks. Enjoying the fantastic scenery. Enjoy.

Fantastic stay in a beautiful b&b, lovely hosts, scrumptious breakfast (and afternoon cakes!), super clean and fresh! Located in walking distance from the village of Blackwaterfoot, we walked on the beach, so no traffic! Garden is very well maintained, a loch in the middle, and so tranquil you could just sit on the bench and forget about the rest of the world.

Tips:

We tried The Lodge's restaurant, very good food, service impeccable. Slightly more interesting menu than another place we looked. Lochside B&B is within walking distance of King's cave, alternatively you can park by the golf course or at a Forestry parking on the road to Machrie.

2nd September 2018:

My wife and I have been staying at Lochside B&B for years. When booked for our five night stay this year we expected to hear back from Marjorie and George. But no, they have retired and we got to meet the new owners, Marion and Alan. Have no fear... Everything's the same. The same warm welcome and hospitality. The same delicious breakfast. The same desire to be helpful and accommodating. The same room. Yes, they even gave us the same room we've always stayed in. Lochside is a great B&B. And, yes, there is indeed a loch (two in fact) with ducks and a pair of picturesque swans and benches where you can relax and watch the grass grow. Then there are the views over to Kintyre across Kilbrannan Sound. They're the same too. The sunsets can be stunning, the air cool and crisp. Not to be missed. Why would we want to stay anywhere else but Lochside?

Tips:

Restaurants? We always have dinner at the Kinloch Hotel Best Western. They have a good beer and wine selection and the food is always delicious. No restaurant in Scotland should be without haggis, keeps and tatties on the menu. It's on the list of appetizers. However, because I like it so much the chef fixed me a double portion for my main course. Where to go? Things to do? That depends on your interests. If you're a golfer there are golf courses. If you are a walker there are hills and mountains you can climb. Or, you can walk the promenade in Brodick. You love to admire scenery? The Isle of Arran's been thought of as Scotland on a small scale. True enough. Shopping? There are some stores in Brodick worth exploring. An interest in art? Check out the galleries. There's also Brodick Castle and it's gardens and grounds. What are my wife and I interested in? Ancient sites. Scotland's pre-history. Standing stones, stone circles, chambered cairns... They're all here. Take that hike out to Machrie Moor and stand in awe of Ancient Man's creations.

We've already recommended you to a few friends! What a wonderful retreat you've created - it kept me going through the last few miles of our cycle knowing that we'd arrive to homebaking and cuppa, a bath, a drying room and a bike store! and to be met with a friendly smile makes all the difference too. Thanks for the loan of the golfing brolly so we could walk to dinner - what a perfect location for a post dinner walk back to our cosy room. We definitely want to come back. Thanks again, Juliette and Francis

Tips:

book dinner at local hotel and stroll through the field, along the coast for ten minutes to get there. we only stayed one night but would recommend two.

I stayed with my brother and husband for 5 drizzly days in August but Arran was still beautiful. Lochside is a beautiful purpose built B&B the facilities are spot on! Even the pillows are soft and comfortable something I have had problems with in other places. The breakfast are wonderful & Marian's local knowledge and friendly approachable attitude great I will not hesitate to return and certainly will recommend it to friends.

An excellent stay in this friendly b & b. Spotless, comfortable well-designed room. Breakfast was plentiful and well-cooked and touches e.g. afternoon tea, pleasant guest lounge were the icing on the cake!

This is our second year visiting this B&B and once again we were delighted with the food, the service, our room, the luxury toiletries and the homebaking. A warm welcome awaits all the guests and Marion spends time getting to know what they would like to do while in Blackwaterfoot and offering local knowledge to help them plan their day.

Tips:

The Blackwaterfoot Lodge is certainly worth a visit. Fresh seafood was on offer the night we were dining and was delicious. The staff are very friendly.

Simply outstanding B&B! The Lochside B&B is situated a few minutes outside of the village centre which can be easily reached by foot. The name of the B&B derives from two lochs right next to the house. The house was built to serve as a B&B and therefore everything is perfect for guests, including a comfortable lounge with a spectacular view. The room was spacious, modern and clean. Breakfast was prepared freshly every morning. The host is extremely friendly and helpful and even provides tea/coffee and bakery every afternoon. Everything was just perfect!

Tips:

You can walk to the village centre where the Kinloch Hotel serves nice food. It's not pretty from the outside but bar and restaurant are good. The view is fantastic. You can go pony riding along the beach.

Absolutely fantastic B and B, could fault nothing. Marion was a great host, supplying coffee/ tea and cakes every afternoon, which was lovely to come back to after a day out. Which is probably all you need after being set up for the day with the wonderful breakfast. The setting was perfect and so peaceful. Our 5 year old daughter loved the freedom of running around the garden. We ventured into Auchrannie resort whilst on the island as this was where we were originally going to stay. Can honestly say we made the better choice staying at Lochside, would not hesitate to return or recommend to anyone. 5 stars plus many more

Had a nice meal at the Kinloch hotel and also Blackwaterfoot lodge, both were great. Also went horse riding on the beach at stables in village which was fab.

We loved everything about our stay... the accommodation and gardens, its proximity to the shoreline, the welcoming host... and a memorable breakfast!

Tips:

The local (Best Western) hotel is decent for an evening meal, and only a 15 minute walk away (fine for a single night's stay, but not sure I'd want to go more than once). The Lagg hotel (about 15 mins drive south) is also good. The beaches at Blackwaterfoot are fabulous, but then there are many unspoilt beaches on Arran, and many great walks!

There is also a selection of cereals and croissants and fresh fruit and yogurts. We love the added extra of the selection cakes with tea and coffee in the afternoon which is self service. The beds are comfy and the quilts are warm, which we needed this Easter, due to the snow, the wind and the lovely icy rain! We will be back again and hopefully the rain is bit warmer this time. Friendly host who has excellent local knowledge. Very useful extras- fridge, drying room, boot racks and afternoon teas. Rooms beautifully appointed. Heating easy to use and instant. We appreciated all these things. Breakfasts excellent using local produce. We particularly enjoyed the fresh fruit. Nothing was too much trouble.

Tips:

We enjoyed our two " road trips ". One to the North and one the south. We had done some homework on each of the villages . We supplemented this with Marion's local knowledge and really enjoyed exploring each place armed with the information. We particularly enjoyed Lochranza, Lamash (especially the cottages for the estate workers of the Duke of Hamilton. The back houses are great. Enjoyed the beach at Sannox - over the stepping stones.

Marion made us feel so welcome on arrival; tea and scones were just what we needed. Place immaculate. Location perfect. As Blackwaterfoot is only twenty minutes from the ferry terminal, why suffer the crowds in Brodick when one can enjoy the sanctuary over here. Facing the South West, one has extended daylight in mid summer.

Tips:

As Marion recommends, pre-booking of evening meals is recommended as restaurants are few and one bus party can take over between 6-8 pm.

The only improvement I would suggest would be the offer of an earlier (uncooked) breakfast. I would usually eat at 7.30 am and, as the bus went at shortly after 9am (9.15 I think but in fact it was delayed). We rushed our (excellent) breakfast served at 8.30am. I paid for this later on.

Tips:

For those choosing to rely on public transport, this location is very good. It is a 8 minute walk to the centre of Blackwaterfoot. (via a generously provided short cut through private land.) Buses go from here in 3 directions, so the whole of the island is available. Close attention does need to be paid to the bus timetable but day-tickets mean that you do not always have to take the shortest route if a longer one will still get you there.

I think it is the best place to stay on the island, they have done such a good job renovating the place, big open space all around and the views to die for, garden is just beautiful. We were so lucky with the weather, sitting in the garden and taking the views was the first thing we did. Marion and her family working really hard and you can see the result. Best hosts and the best place, we would love to go back one day

Tips:

We had a lovely walk from the sea front into the village and a delicious meal at black grouse, little bit pricey but worth it, tried one of the gin made in isle of harris which it has a great taste. 3 miles walk at kings cave, marion adviced us to walk clock wise, it is the best advice, views were stunning all around, what a beautiful place, never seen trees that thick and the sound they make

Delightful people, delightful place. Arran is small enough that any destination is good. This place is very quiet. Would definitely recommend to others. Can I make one small suggestion....if you are showing people the quickest way into town along the shore then that track needs to be strimmed & made more obvious!

Tips:

We dined in both the Black Grouse & the Kinloch Hotel. The Black Grouse is a more special expensive experience. The Kinloch was more basic food but plenty of it & relatively cheap!!!! Very friendly and welcoming with cake and hot drinks laid on for us in Guests' lounge overlooking lochin. Comfortable, clean and well-appointed room with ensuite containing wet room. Excellent choice for breakfast, including fresh fruit salad and hot choice cooked to order. We were even supplied with lemon for our tea! Everything you could want from a B&B. This was our first night of a tour of the islands and highlands and it exceeded our expectations.

22nd April 2017:

A very welcoming, homely and comfortable place to stay in a lovely location. Breakfasts were delicious and afternoon tea in the lounge overlooking the grounds and the ocean is highly recommended.

Tips:

Walking into the village across the fields and along the beach was enjoyable and there are a couple of places to eat once you get there. The staff at Black Grouse were very friendly and the food was excellent.

17th April 2017:

Lovely stay and very friendly welcome from Marion. Room very clean and breakfast delicious. The extractor fan in our bathroom (room 4) was noisy on the first night even when off - it seemed to be moving in a breeze but it was better when we shut the bathroom door.

Owner Response:

Thank you for your review and we're glad you enjoyed your stay with us. Further to your comments regarding the fan in Room 4, we have replaced the fan so hopefully the problem is now fixed. We hope to welcome you back to Lochside and Arran in the future.

The staff made you feel very welcome and relaxed. The room was perfect, lovely view and very comfortable. nicely decorated too. Will definitely go back and recommend to others.

Tips:

Only about 10 minutes walk to the local pub, and shop. This is where the buses leave that takes you around the island. There a great golf course within walking distance and a lovely peaceful beach. The grounds to the Lochside are beautiful and it would be a treat to just to spend time there absorbing the wonderful natural environment.

We had a lovely stay here. It might be worth informing others who are doing the Arran Coastal Walk about the short cut up from the beach to your garden - it saves a bit of road walking.

Thanks for letting us stay at your lovely B&B, we had a great time. Absolutely loved Lochside, rooms very nice and the surrounding gardens are amazing overlooking the loch and the sea. Fantastic staff, we'll be back again.

Tips:

Arran is beautiful, there's lots of wildlife like seals, otters, geese, birds etc. Scenery and the beaches are all amazing, you won't be disappointed visiting Arran. Our daughter loves it over there too.

30th March 2017:

Marion is an excellent hostess. We received a warm welcome. Super breakfast. Comfortable bed. Ample parking. Peaceful surroundings. Hope to return in the future.

Tips:

Lochside is close to the Best Western Kinloch Hotel where we had an excellent meal. 10 per cent discount between 5.00 pm. and 6.00 pm. Don't know if that will be operational all year round.
