Helen and Andy made us very welcome during our stay at their B&B. Food was excellent. Breakfast, so many variations to choose from with home made bread and marmalade/jams. Bedrooms were fully equipped with lots of little extra touches, loved the bedtime stories. They were both so informative with places to visit and walks to do, also where to eat for our evening meal. Couldn't have found a better place to stay.

Tips:

The Drift Inn and Pierhead Tavern are both worth a visit for meals. Brodick Castle and gardens are lovely. There are several walks in the area and many interesting historical sites to visit including the Standing Sones on Machie Moors.

This is a wonderful B&B hosted by a lovely couple who go out of their way to provide guests with a 5 star experience. Andy’s breakfasts are delicious and there is always a tempting special of the day! Lovely little extras add to your stay. Free chocolates on arrival and daily ‘Arran stories’ Written by Helen, left in your room - no surprise at all that they’ve won awards in the hospitality industry.

Tips:

We really enjoyed Crofters in Brodick ( the best meal of our 10 day holiday) The drive to Lochranza via Corrie and Sannox bay Was really pretty and the tiny sandwich Shop in Lochranza has a surprisingly delicious mix of fillings to choose from and also had gluten free options.

We have travelled extensively but don’t usually write reviews. However Craig Mhor is an exception, the best B & B we have ever stayed in. Top notch standards, lovely hosts that couldn’t do enough for you and the breakfast was fabulous, as was the attention to detail.

We had a lovely meal at the Brodick Bar and Brassiere and would also recommend a trip to the Mara Fish Bar. We also really enjoyed the tutored whisky tasting at the Lochranza distillery.

My husband Rod and I had a fabulous time at Carraig Mhor and were thoroughly spoilt by our hosts Helen and Andy. We stayed in the Waverley room which was really comfortable and had everything we needed and more…including very tasty homemade shortbread biscuits each day. The view out the window to the Holy Isle from the huge bed was stunning. The breakfasts cooked by Andy were plentiful and delicious with daily specials. Both Helen and Andy were very ready to give excellent travel advice when asked. We had an evening meal one night which was of a very high standard. We couldn’t fault our 3 night stay and will definitely rebook if we return to Arran in the future. Highly recommended.

Tips:

We enjoyed all of the island but don’t miss Lochranza. We enjoyed the walks to the standing stones and in Glen Rosa plus the one from Sannox to North Sannox.

What can we say? Everything was perfect and Helen and Andy had thought about everything to make for a great stay - and then more! Their attention to detail couldn't be bettered and they were always at hand if and when any help or information was needed. Their breakfasts were excellent and varied, very filling, and their choices in jams and marmalades unbeatable, as my waistline now proves.

Tips:

If going to Arran, Lamlash is an ideal place, as it is very handy if driving all around the island. It is almost on the doorstep if you want to take the small ferry to the Holy Isle, which is generally a most interesting place, as well as providing an excellent hill walk. There are 4 or 5 eating places within a few minutes' walk and the village is even favoured by a number of small shops. If going to Arran definitely consider Lamlash and Carraig Mhor.

I cannot praise Helen and Andy high enough. They are perfect hosts, providing delicious breakfasts that are beautifully presented and an amazing choice. The room we had was at the back of the property and is a lovely place to rest after a day of walking and sightseeing. The little touches like The home made biscuits, proper milk in a little fridge rather than those horrible pots of uht milk, full size bottles of hair and body wash, thick fluffy bath towels are just an example of the little touches that made our stay very comfortable. Helen and Andy put a lot of work in to making guests welcome and comfortable, thank you both for a lovely stay.

We throughly enjoyed our second stay at Carraig Mhor. The friendly welcome, the food, all the special little extra touches, and of course the lovely quiet room. Thank you for it all. I'm sure we will be back again in the not too distant future.

Tips:

There is something for everyone on Arran. Whatever you enjoy doing - golf, walking, cycling, sailing or simply sitting back, relaxing and enjoying the lovely scenery. Tourists are well catered for so there are many places to have a full meal or just have a quick cup of coffee. If you like ancient history don't miss taking a walk out to see the standing stones and stone circles on Machrie Moor.

This was our second stay at Carraig Mhor and it was just as great as the first time. Lovely room with amazing view of Holy Isle, very comfortable super king sized bed and with tea/coffee etc and delicious home made shortbread. Attention to detail was first class. Every possible comfort was anticipated, from ear-plugs (though not required) to torch (not required), and offer of guide books, to those little luxuries that are so memorable: home made delicious short-bread, fresh water, fresh milk in our our own fridge and a luxurious chocolate on the bedside cabinet. zzzz and a happy bedtime story. Breakfast was in a class of its own: home made granola, yoghurt and freshly baked bread and good quality freshly ground coffee. Honestly, there was nothing left to chance. We can't wait to return.

Tips:

Holy Isle is worth a visit and the Bay Hotel was excellent for dinner. A walk along the beach/coast at sunset is recommended for serenity and sense of calm.

The breakfasts were amazing. Good wholesome healthy food prepared to a very high standard and plenty of variation. Helen and Andy were very helpful with advice about local activities and places to eat. Our rooms were together and were excellent for our family. Enough space in the bedrooms with a decent sized hall way with adjoining bathroom in between. Being self contained meant we had real privacy. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Carraig Mhor.

Tips:

Lochranza distillery and the beautiful wild coastline a definite must do. We saw sea otters, red deer and seals. Goat Fell is a real challenge. Unfortunately the cloud came down and we couldn't see a thing and had to turn back. The views , as the cloud cleared, were amazing and well worth the climb. We saw red squirrels in the woods at the bottom. Glenashdale falls is very pretty. We walked up by the river and down by the stone burial ground. The views of Holy Island and beyond were really lovely. Keep a look out for seals as you drive/walk around the coast line. We saw them at Kildonan and several other places. Best place we ate was The Drift Inn for quality. Pier Head Tavern was not same quality but was okay for value for money. Went to the music night on the Saturday which was great. The staff were very attentive at both places. The Café across the road was excellent for both service and food. Lots of lovely places (too many to mention). Really enjoyed Arran and all it has to offer.

Our stay at Carraig Mhor was an unexpected joy. The B&B is a bit old worldly. The welcome is warm with little touches like fresh milk in fridge, Arran chocolates and homemade shortbread in your room. Our room had a little hallway, fresh clean bathroom and two bedrooms. We had the use of one but could be used for a family with complete privacy. BREAKFASTS were THE best we have ever had!!! Everything homemade and delicious. I would most definitely recommend this B&B as the owners privide good old fashion hospitality in every way!

We stayed for four nights with a gap in between visiting Islay. The accommodation was brilliant, clean and comfortable with a lot of little extras. Helen and Andrew were very friendly and made our stay just like a home from home. The homemade jams and breads were excellent and they catered brilliantly for a vegetarian coeliac! They have obviously put a lot of thought into the whole enterprise and we reckon they must be the best B and B in Lamlash.

Tips:

We went to the Glen Isle Bistro and the Drift Inn to eat, both of which were very good. They both had extensive menus, but were a bit limited on the vegetarian front, but what was available was excellent. The Glen Isle Bistro's menu shows clearly what is vegetarian and gluten free or which can be adapted.

A warm welcome at this sea front b&b. Rooms are bright and there is excellent wifi (this is important as there is almost no phone signal on island) so plan your day. Breakfast is superb with excellent choice and the little extras in room especially home made shortbread is an unexpected treat. Hosts have great local knowlege - so use it !

Tips:

Drift Inn in Lamlash is an excellent choice for dinner , service is first class and it has an amazing beach front spot with view of holy isle. It does not take reservations so arrive early grab a drink if warm sit outside and enjoy. Well priced wine list as well. Other places Douglas hotel - great if waiting for Ferry. Food and drink are very good. Fiddlers cafe - we stopped for cake and coffee , menu also looks good. Goat fell offers a challenging hike - take drinks and be prepared for all weathers . On way down wine port is great for a pint recommend Arran blond Glenashdale falls are stunning - ask for directions as can be difficult to find . Creelers is a good lunch stop for fish lovers . Distillery tour is fun. Brodick castle ok. - thought £12.50 a bit over priced and would be be expensive for family . Best things is to do a loop around whole island discovering bays and walks - it's stunning scenery .

What a lovely stay we had at Helen and Andys B & B, everything about it was top rate. From chocolates on the pillow when we arrived to the lovely homemade biscuits. When we returned after our evening out, the log fire was lit for us in the lounge. We had a fantastic 2-night stay at Carraig Mhor back in August, easily the loveliest B&B we've ever stayed in! The room was beautiful and the wee touches such as the bedtime story and the chocolate on the pillows were just lovely. Breakfast was absolutely delicious and a thoroughly enjoyable start to our days combined with the beautiful view looking out across the water and to Holy Isle. The location was great and proved a fantastic base for exploring the Isle of Arran and visiting a family member. It was our first visit to the island (likely not our last!) and we appreciated Helen and Andy's local knowledge and the loan of their walking guides. They were friendly and welcoming, and we could not have asked for better accommodation or hosts. Highly recommended!

Tips:

We'd recommend exploring the north of the island as well as the south. The beach near Lagg was deserted, really peaceful. Also recommend trying the local ice cream, cheese and beer.

What impressed us most (and that in itself is hard to decide) was the outstanding attention to detail. This spanned all aspects of our stay, from the warm and organised welcome to the hand made chocolates on our bedside tables to the yummy, locally sourced and beautifully cooked breakfast! These people really work hard to ensure you enjoy your stay.

Tips:

We ate at the Drift Inn and had the hand caught scallops. They were delicious! The inn also had a good selection of real ales and wine. The staff were informed and courteous and helpful.

My mother and I stayed here for one night and really wish we could have stayed longer! Carraig Mhor is a lovely, friendly and top class B&B in an excellent location overlooking Lamlash bay and the Holy Isle. Lamlash is the perfect little self contained village not far from Brodick. Hosts Helen and Andy are very friendly and welcoming and are happy to help in any way they can. Had a lovely chat with Helen after breakfast, she was very helpful and interesting. She gave me lots of ideas and advice about things we wanted to see and do on Arran. We had the perfect room overlooking Lamlash bay with spectacular views of the Holy Isle, it was the Waverley superior with sea view. The beds were very comfortable and the ensuite was immaculate. There were lovely touches such as very tasty homemade shortbread biscuits left by the tea and coffee table and a handmade chocolate by the bed by Arran James chocolate. Breakfast was just delicious with a good choice. I loved the fresh fruit with choices of yoghurt and the most delicious cooked breakfast. Andy's homemade bread was very tasty and the homemade jams were a lovely touch also. WiFi was also available and worked well. I cannot recommend this B&B highly enough and hope to be back next year.

Great location on the seafront in Lamlash. Waverley room is lovely with excellent facilities & the bed itself is superbly comfortable. Helen and Andy were very friendly and accommodating hosts & our breakfasts were the best I have come across anywhere in a B & B. We had to pay our bill online in advance, which made me seriously think if we really wanted to stay there as opposed to anywhere else before actually confirming my reservation. This may put some off, but it worked OK for us. The cost per night was also more expensive than most B & B's, but probably worth it if you like your comfort.

Tips:

The Arran Heritage Museum a pleasant surprise. Would also recommend a visit to the Arran distillery, even if all you want is a cup of coffee. The weather was not too bad when we visited (mid-June), just not as sunny as further south at the same time. This is the regular conundrum when deciding on a visit to Arran (or almost anywhere in Scotland) for a holiday!

Tips:

Without doubt, the very best place to eat out on Arran at the moment is the Stags Pavilion at Lochranza, for superb quality at a very reasonable price. Valerie and Rino have only been operating for three years on Arran, but are now without doubt the No.1 Spot to eat.
