5th October 2024:

Hunters Guest House is about as convenient as you can get - five minutes walk from the ferry terminal in one direction and the pubs and shops in the other. The room I was in was not huge but it was clean and comfortable and had everything I needed for a short stay. The folks who run the place are lovely, friendly people who are very helpful and the breakfast was wonderful - a real treat. This is a classic Scottish B&B which I highly recommend.

We had a great time and Brian and his partners excellent breakfasts were the best way to start each day. We met Mitch on arrival and he was honest enough to describe some aspects of our accommodation which was causing him issues before our arrival however when we arrived he had managed to get the repairs done. No hesitation in recommending Hunters we had a good time in Broddick. Mitch; if you could perhaps reply to your email enquiries sometimes that would have reduced my stress levels a little but a minor point which shouldn’t put people off using Hunters.

Tips:

Recommend the Douglas and Ormidale hotels for good food and live music.

Was actually in Hunters Retreat in a caravan. Was very quiet, secluded and peaceful. We got stranded for two extra nights due to technical problems with the ferry, but Mitch kindly extended our stay immediately

Tips:

Bring a torch as the road leading to the caravan is unlit. The Ormidale Hotel is lovely for a snack or meal. The Hunters downstairs cafe is lovely with a picnic area and the couple who run it are so welcoming.

We used 2 rooms room 4 was comfortable. I found bed ok too soft for my personal taste. The room had an ensuite with a bath. Teeny tv though but nowadays most use their phones anyway. Room number 6 was huge and amazing views! Highly recommended. I think the only recommendation would be more updated communication/ website. The cleaner Claire was lovely and very helpful

Tips:

Fishermen walk is lovely and brodick Castle was stunning. And woolleys bakery is delish. And we loved the shop called driftwood. Good amount of buses are great.

The breakfasts and warm welcome provided by Brian in the cafe attached to the guest house are great - heartily recommend taking up the breakfast option! The room itself was a little tired with a tiny en-suite but otherwise fine and a great central location for Brodick based activities. It’s a shame the email asking about arrival time came through on the day of travel. I’d have been happy to provide but saw this after my trip! For first time visitors, it would be helpful to warn about the need to book your ferry in advance and look out for late cancellations.

Great central location and the room was spacious and very tidy indeed. Staff were lovely and very welcoming. Breakfast was well worth the extra and set you up for the day - totaly recommend!

Tips:

Get an Arran walks guide and try any of them. The one from Brodick to Lamlash is beautiful and easy for those who maybe are a little wary of the rugged outdoors as it is gentle and only 3 miles long. But there are plenty of others. In Brodick would recommend the Golf Club and the Ormidale for evening meals so long as you are hungry!

Ideal location in the heart of Brodick with all amenities you need at hand. Excellent friendly welcome and atmosphere from the owner Mitch and Brian and Margo who run the cafe downstairs and provide the breakfast which was delish, we loved the tasty yogurt & granola fruit starters and the coffee , if you don’t ask you don’t get. Our room had plenty of space for our 2 dogs, very comfy bed , large TV and great wee power shower. Highly recommended Guest House.

Tips:

Fisherman’s Walk takes you along boardwalks and leads you to Brodick beach, great for dog walkers or anyone looking for a nice easy stroll with views of Goatfell. For food, Chinese takeaway and pizza parlour recommended. For beautiful walks, Glen Rosa and forest trail to Lamlash , no transport required if you like a good walk with stunning scenery en route.

18th October 2023:

Our room was very cold on arrival, although it did warm up later in the evening after the owner put the heating on. The point is that the hearing should have been on a few hours before our arrival at 5.30pm. The shower was broke which was not fixed throughout our 4 night stay. This was very unhelpful to my wife who suffers from bone cancer and couldn’t wash her hair in a bath. The furniture is dated and although the room was spacious and has lovely views, the room felt dreary. I’ve stayed at Hunters since 2012, it’s in need of modernisation. In the plus side, the breakfasts are fantastic with excellent service from Brian and his wife. Nothing is too much trouble for them and their dedication to customer service is a credit to their own business, which operates separately from the hotel.

Tips:

Lamlash is better for services and restaurants. The hotel should modernise its main rooms if it wants to charge premium prices that don’t include breakfast, which is charged separately and paid directly to Brian.

I was a solo traveller and require crutches for walking. I had a ground floor room with a well equipped bathroom. Breakfasts were excellent and the welcome from Brian and Margan was much appreciated. They created a friendly atmosphere in the breakfast room/cafe. Hunters Guest House is on the sea front and very close to the ferry port. It's easy to park close by but also within walking distance if you're on foot.

Tips:

Very close by is The Chocolate Factory. Not cheap but fantastic quality. I visited The Wineport for lunch and can highly recommend it. Lunch is served from 12 - 4 pm. You can't book so I recommend going early. I spent time at Brodick Castle - very interesting and they have a lift if mobility is an issue. I spent a delightful afternoon in the Arran Art Gallery at Whiting Bay - I loved it!

First time visit to Arran for my friend’s wedding and loved it. Hunters is a short beautiful walk from the Brodick ferry terminal. All staff were lovely and friendly, spacious bedroom with comfy bed and a delicious breakfast. We couldn’t fault a thing and highly recommend the Hunters Guest house.

Extremely friendly, dog welcoming, clean, bed comfortable. Shower nice and hot. The room was a little cold, the heating came on the first night but not the other two nights for some reason despite the radiators being turned up.

Tips:

There was an amazing pizza place just across from the coop that did fantastic take away pizzas. I think you could sit down and eat them too but dogs were not allowed indoors here. There were lots of dog friendly places however. We didn’t struggle getting in to pubs/hotels/restaurants/cafes with her There were some amazing sun rises on the beach opposite the B&B There was also a really good sport shop minutes down the road just incase you forget to pack anything (dogs were also allowed in here)

The owner of Hunters Guest house could not be more helpful and accommodating. When our ferry was cancelled on the 30th he met us very early the next day and allowed us to check in to our room, allowing us to get a sleep in preparation for our Hogmanay celebrations that night. Check out was also flexible. The location of Hunters guest house could not be more central to the town of Brodick in addition to this we had the most stunning views of the ocean and the Goatfell from our room. We have recommended this accommodation to everyone we have spoken to. It really is a hidden gem.

Tips:

Plenty of parking outside of the hotel, located close to the ferry port, co op, cafes and a wonderful bakery.

Fab host's, amazing breakfast, just great!

Tips:

Don't go to the lighthouse for food. Crofter's is good for food. The pizza place in brodick is really tasty. North Glen Sannox is a really nice walk up next to the rambling small waterfalls. Kings Cave's walk is really beautiful. Lots of deer to see around lochranza. Seals to see at Kildonan & blackwaterfoot, sometimes the odd one in between brodick & Corrie. Kilmory workshop is always a cool visit for woodwork, make sure the flag is flying! Arran distillery (lochranza) is a nice visit! The tour is good. This guest house is lovely. I stayed in Room 1 which is spacious and very well presented with a roomy en-suit. The room has a huge bay window looking over Brodick Bay and Goat Fell. The guest house is in a great position to explore Brodick and well as a good base for wider adventures on Arran. Over breakfast served by the wonderful Brian was fantastic although heart attack inducing, with the black pudding and haggis. There are healthier options, I just didn’t order them.

The Ormadale, Crofters, Arran botanicals, the Lagg and Lochranza Distilleries. Climb Goat Gell and swim in the pools of the Rosa Burn.

We were given a warm welcome by the owner Mitch, who then went on to show us our room and how to order the breakfasts. Our room was large and comfortable, it had the most fantastic view overlooking Brodick Bay, absolutely stunning! At breakfast our host was the lovely Brian, who went way up and beyond to make sure everything was spot on. We were all made to feel really welcome. We will certainly be booking again.

Tips:

Hunters Hotel is 10 mins from the ferry, you have some great local gift shops, cafes and evening restaurants all with in a few minutes walk. The local bus stops outside the hotel, going right round the island, so easy enough to visit the likes of Blackwaterfoot or Arran distillery. We came across the most beautiful beach bar just up from the Arran Aromatics and cheese shop, it felt like we were on a Mediterranean island. There is live music at one of the local bars, with a great atmosphere. A fabulous island to visit, great food, outstanding scenery, wonderful hospitality. You really need to visit Arran to find out for yourself.

2nd August 2022:

Service/Staff does not apply as we were in Hunter's Retreat self catering accommodation. However everything was immaculate when we arrived and we were not expecting there to be supplies of anything. In fact there was even fresh milk in the fridge, lots of towels, toilet rolls etc. The only thing the accommodation was out of was tea bags and that's hardly a disaster. Holiday accommodation always used to have a book with all the local amenities and attractions, ferry and bus timetables, etc. But I suppose everybody gets all that on the internet now. Everything was perfect except the location. The view was lovely. But it was difficult to get to for me as I'm not very mobile. My 3-wheeled walking aid was useless on the rough path. Two walking poles was better but I couldn't climb the steps without assistance from one of my family. Only one of them, my granddaughter, was staying there with me, the others were in a motorhome and it was impossible to get it up the last bit of the lane. Actually the steps were fairly bad for anyone, being extremely narrow and on a curve. A handrail would be a huge help. However, I had found it impossible to find B&B in Brodick when we booked (February). I discussed it with Mitch at the time and accepted Hunter's Retreat knowing it was a bit off the beaten track. It was just a bit further off than I had realised. There was nothing wrong with the accommodation, it was me that had the problem. Next time I'll try to book a bit earlier. I would definitely recommend to others but with the proviso that it would be a struggle for anyone who needs assistance walking.

Tips:

Brodick Bar has gone WAY up in price. Can't say whether it was worth it as we didn't feel like stretching so far. Achrannie Cruise was superb, and reasonably priced. Pity they are not currently running the tapas bar. Ormidale looks a bit rough and ready but food was excellent, service very friendly and price very reasonable. £6 seemed a bit steep for a round of Crazy Golf, but there were plenty of takers besides us so people clearly find it OK. Things to see and do on Arran???? Well there's Arran. What more do you need. Even if I can no longer walk far, I thankfully still have my eyes and Arran as always is a feast from which I return home refreshed in every way.

Hello Mitch. Brian and the lady whose name begins with M were lovely and the breakfasts were great. The bed was comfortable and the towels were very new. But the white face cloth that you provided (which I didn't need because I had my own) was stained. The room was generally clean but attention should be made to an occasional full clean. For example the light shade was thick with dust. The shower could be cleaner in places that I know are difficult to get to. The shower outlet needs a good clean from time to time. The bathroom was very small. It took a long time for hot water to flow. I left the tap running in the basin and was lucky not to cause a flood because there is no overflow.

Tips:

I enjoyed a very nice meal at the Drift Inn. I would not recommend Ormidale (a bit rough and ready). Brodick Castle is interesting and the gardens are wonderful - including play areas for kids. The museum is worth a visit

Amazing location with beautiful views sun on the balcony from morning to late evening - we were very lucky with the weather. Caravan is comfortable and facilities are good. Beds are comfortable and bedding soft and clean. Good shower - although does drip another use, good water pressure though! Kitchen facilities workable, grill needs a technique to use but works fine. Didn’t use oven or microwave. Fridge good size with freezer compartment. Parking at the caravan fine.

Tips:

So much to see and do on Arran. The Parlour pizza take away is amazing. Chinese was good too. Co- op at end of beach was well stocked. Supremely friendly warm welcome, wonderful views, great brekkie and very reasonable value for money. I would stay again in a heartbeat and recommend Hunters to friends.

Tips:

get an early booking at Crofters to eat the langustines before they disappear! And there's a lovely walk up the hillside behind the lodge via Mayish to lamlash.

Delightful B & B in a prime position overlooking the beautiful Brodick Bay. Spacious room with the best view. Hotel has so much character and nothing is too much trouble for the owners. Excellent breakfast served by the host Brian along with a wee chat. Will most definately return in the not too distant future.

Tips:

Book rooms 2 or 3 in this hotel for the views! Take a drive around the whole island its worth it to see the beautiful scenery. Walk along fisherman's beach to beach gin bar though it closes at 7pm! Relax and recharge your batteries in this little piece of heaven.

As I changed booking to 3 nights at the last minute, was helpfully given a room at Allendale House in Brodick so could spend all 3 nights in one room. The guest house is very welcoming, clean and comfortable. Breakfasts are excellent. Special thanks to Mitch for driving me to and from A & E at Lamlash late in the evening following a fall. I had a very happy stay at Allendale House. I highly recommend Allendale House and also Hunters Guest House, where I have stayed for previous Folk Festivals.

Tips:

Highly recommend Hunters Coffee Shop within Hunters Guest House. The Coffee Shop offers a wide range of teas, coffees and soft drinks and delicious home baking as well as home made soup, hot and cold filled rolls and a number of other hot items, including paninis and the option of chips. It's well worth having a look at the menu to see the full range on offer. Service is excellent and the surroundings very clean, pleasant and relaxing. Location on the main street in Brodick is very convenient.

We enjoyed our two night stay in the static caravan. It was spacious and well-located. Unfortunately the sandy car parking area made it impossible to keep sand out of the caravan and car and get muddy shoes. There were no tea towels or kitchen roll in the kitchen.

Tips:

We got food from Shanghai chinese takeaway and The Parlour pizza takeaway at the bottom of the road - both were excellent. Brodick has plenty of shops, places to eat and tourist shops. We especially loved the Arran Active outdoor shop. Overall it was a good location for exploring the island and convenient for to the ferry terminal.

We spent 2 hights at Hunters Guest House . Our room was spacious with an amazing Sea view . The bathroom including shower was modern and tastefully decorated. The breakfast was outstanding , really quality products, tasty , plentiful and good value . Brian insisted on more Coffee / Tea and toast . The Guest House is dog friendly which is perfect for all the walks on the Island. We would definitely recommend a stay at Hunters and intend to return . Hopefully soon .

Very comfortable beds. The Guest house is very well located for the ferry terminal in Brodick and in easy reach of two co-ops for purchasing snacks. The breakfast is £12 a day, though it would be nice to see an option for a reduced price on this if only wanting the continental options.

Tips:

Make sure you look up the food places, decide where you might want to eat and be sure to order ahead of time. There are not that many options, particularly in the summer when there are tourists and locals vying for the services at the weekend. Parking is easy enough around the island as there are few time limits and plenty of space. Do NOT underestimate hiking up Goat fell. It is a long, steep climb. Take plenty of layers, water and food and be sure to have a map with you. I would recommend the main path from the Cladach centre as this route is gentler than the Corrie route and very well sign posted. I would recommend walking boots over trail trainers as there are some very high steps up and down, the boots also provide a more stable footing for coming down a path with a high % of scree.

The room was great, spacious, clean and with amazing views to Goat Fell. Loved the settee by the window to enjoy the view. Bathroom was modern, clean with a good shower.Overall a lovely room to stay in. Parking very easy on the road, loads of space and free. Mitch was a welcoming and helpful host, very happy for my wife to keep her own milk in his fridge. Breakfast granola\yoghurt\fruit bowl was a welcome change to the endless 'cooked breakfast only' menus on offer in other B&Bs we stayed in on this trip. Would loved to have seen smoked salmon\eggs on the menu as it is so fab in Scotland.

Only one thing to say regarding the shower in room 2. We found trying to regulate the temperature via the two taps a bit of a chore. We would find a suitable temperature then it would jump between very hot or cold. Difficult to concentrate on washing while juggling with the taps and trying not to get burned or cold. Mitch should try using it to appreciate the problem. Otherwise, all was just fine and we enjoyed our stay.

Tips:

Surprising and disappointing that Brodick has very little to offer by way of evening meals. Fish and chips on the pier, a pizza restaurant, and a pretty pricey bistro. Sandwiches from the Co-op. On Sundays, even in the high season, you will struggle to find anything more substantial than assorted coffee and cake stops around the island. That said, Arran Aromatics, cheese, candles, distillery etc., are all worth a look also the Arran Museum in Brodick. The islanders complained that Covid and lockdown were losing them business but you will not sell anything without making some effort.

Had a fabulous stay at the Hunters Guest House. Mitch and his staff could not have been more helpful and accommodating. We arrived early and left our luggage before check in and likewise at the end of our stay we left our luggage while we enjoyed our day before catching the ferry back. Mitch also gave us a lift at 7:30 am to the start of our walk rather than us catching a bus! Great breakfast, clean room, friendly serves. Can’t ask for more. Many thanks. We will be back.

Also very well cared for which was important for us. If you're going to do one epic thing on Arran it has to be hiking up Goat Fell. We really enjoyed our stay - there is so much to do on the island that we didn’t spend too much time in the hotel but everything was perfect when we were there. Breakfast particularly was amazing, and Mitch does a great job of creating a friendly, relaxed atmosphere. Our room was cosy and warm and everything was clean and functional. We have given the “5” ratings because everything was excellent for us, but in the interest of feedback and improvement, the cold tap in room 4 basin needs re-fixing and you might want to consider blackout curtains as the room is extremely bright at 6am on a sunny morning! Neither of these things bothered us at all, but equally we thought we may as well be honest. Overall, the stay was amazing and we will be back again.

Tips:

The food at the Brodick Bar & Brasserie was better than the food at the Douglas Hotel, and actually the prices were comparable. The Wooleys bakery is closed on Sunday! The CalMac ferry guys were brilliant and refunded our Lochranza ferry ticket to squeeze us onto the Ardrossan ferry - a trip into the booking office is well worth the time despite what the website may tell you.

Mitch and Tess were WONDERFUL hosts. Our stay on Arran was greatly improved by their warm welcome, hospitality, and outstanding company. They both went above and beyond to make us comfortable. The breakfasts were incredible and fueled us for an entire day of hiking. We will stay here again upon return travel, and will recommend it to any and all travellers coming to the Isle of Arran.

Tips:

We really enjoyed Crofters Music Bar and the food at Hunters Guest House. Walks/hikes at Kings Caves and Glenashdale Falls were easily done in a few hours. Taking the bus around the northern part of the island allowed us to see all of the terrain and even some seals during our short stay.

Mitch, one of the owners was a great host and made us feel very welcome from the start. He is very knowledgable about the island and helped us with restaurant advice and locations. We would have no hesitation in recommending this guest house to family and friends. Breakfast was freshly cooked and delicious

Tips:

Brodick Castle is very good and the gardens are beautiful, well worth a visit. Drive around the Island is a must and the scenery is gorgeous. We ate in Crofters restaurant, just 2 mins walk from the guest house, Brambles restaurant within the Auchrannie resort in Brodick and The Kinloch Hotel in Blackwaterfoot.

LECKER!

I stayed at hunters guest house for 4 nights. I had a single room with a double bed which was lovely and clean. Breakfast was excellent and the new owners Tess and Mitch were so friendly and welcoming as were the staff. In a great location on the sea front near shops, the beach and only 5 minutes walk from the ferry terminal. A little gem of a guest house.

Tips:

I would recommend Visiting Little Rock if you’re looking for a good place to eat, the Auchrannie Spa resort and Brodick Castle are nice places to take the family but if you are looking for a place to let your hair down and have a bit of a dance the Ormidale Hotel has a disco on a Friday and Saturday night and Folk music on a Sunday. And let’s not forget James chocolate shop.

11th May 2019:

Compared with other guest houses/hotels in Brodick we found Hunters to be good value for money. If we were staying again, we'd request a room with a 'proper' shower; the room we were staying in had a bath with a hand held shower, this didn't make for a great shower. The proprietors (Mitch and Tess) have recently taken over the business, there's a good chance they'll have sorted this out in the near future. A couple of other things, we had the most comfortable bed we've ever slept in and the view from the front was absolutely stunning.

Tips:

We found a couple of really good local restaurants in Crofters and Eighteen69 at Auchrannie; Crofters is really close to Hunters, Auchrannie is about a 1 km walk. Arran is the place to go if you're looking for stuff to do outdoors e.g. walking, hiking, birding, golfing, biking etc.; we'll definitely be going back soon.

Recently new owners took over The Hunters Guest House. We were at bit nervous of course as we have stayed there many times over the past four years and hoped that we would still have a memorable experience. We were pleasantly surprised to find the new owners, Tess and Mitch warm, welcoming and very accommodating. We stayed in our usual room with the best view and it still feels like home away from home. Breakfast was delightful, especially the parfait. Of course there will be some new additions which I'm sure will be enjoyed by all. We look forward to returning to our old favourite soon.

Tips:

Brodick has lots of eateries available. The Douglas, Rock Cafe, Crofters, The Parlour, Brodick Bar, Woolys Bakery and the Chocolate Factory There are equally great places to eat in Auchrannie, Lamlash, Whiting Bay, Kildonan and BlackwaterFoot to mention a few that we have been to so far. There is a brewery and a distillery on the island too. Visit the cheese factory, Arran Aromatics, the pottery shop and stop in at Jannies for some home cooking. If you enjoy walking there are over 40 you can try and several golf courses.

Myra and I enjoyed our stay very much.Mitch and Tess are extremely friendly hosts and made us very welcome. They have only just taken over the Guest House from its previous owners .It is on the promenade in Brodick, only half a mile from the ferry so is ideal for anyone visiting Arran either with or without a car--parking is easy across the promenade free and there is a bus stop directly opposite..Buses run around the island regularly too.

Tips:

There is a pub in Lamlash only 3 miles away which serves good food and a big co-op only a couple of hundred yards from Hunters-a smaller one only 50 yards away. Also an ATM and bank almost next door (RBS).This guest House is ideal for people wanting to walk in Arran without a car as they can easily get out and about. You need to be careful with timetables though to avoid having to wait on the return journeys as the buses sometimes run at fairly long intervals as they go around the island-50+ miles. We had a car so there was no difficulty although some of the roads are a bit potholey--generally very good though. We wish Mitch and Tess all success in their new venture! Guy and Myra Booth--Edinburgh.
