Spotlessly clean entrance, breakfast room and bedroom With one way system in place - all so important in this Covid world. Colin and June were really friendly hosts and wore masks at all times and kept socially distanced which made us feel very comfortable. Lovely choice for breakfast. We’ll definitely stay again!

We had a fantastic stay here. Everything was spotlessly clean, breakfasts were excellent, the location is stunning. The hosts could not have been more welcoming and friendly, and were a mine of information when we needed some advice. Easy parking. 'COVID precautions' were comprehensive but easily followed and were highly reassuring. Faultless, thank you both!

Tips:

Book your evening meals in advance, as currently the local establishments are operating at reduced capacity. However, in all the establishments we tried they were worth it. Excellent walks are available locally, many more available a short drive away. Additional shops and restaurants are available in Brodick or Whiting Bay, both of which are less than ten minutes drive away. However, don't stray too far from Lamlash - it's beautiful!

Hi Colin We had a really great week with you, even given the current conditions. As usual your accommodation is spotless, your breakfasts are great and so fresh and both you and June are a mine of information. We will and have recommended your B&B and will certainly do so again. Hope to see you both again the next time we visit Arran.

Tips:

The Pierhead Tavern and the Lamlash Hotel are worth a visit for evening meals. If you golf there are some lovely courses especially Shiskin. If you go in August beware of the midges. Plenty of places to walk and some stunning scenery.

We greatly enjoyed our visit to Lamlash, and appreciated the friendly helpfulness of Colin and June Richardson at the Lilybank Guest House. What was especially important for us was the ways in which they went out of their way to make things easy for one of our party, who is blind, and another, who had recently broken a collar-bone.

Tips:

We found tasty food at (i) the Pier Head Tavern, and (ii) the Glen Isle Hotel next door. Things to do: we enjoyed the prehistoric stones circles and standing stones at Macrie, and the waterfall at Glenashdale.

Despite all the problems with Covid 19 Colin and June had taken sensible precautions and we felt perfectly safe and not hassled. We were given a warm welcome although we arrived early and throughout the stay we felt like one of the family. Breakfast was excellent and set us up for the day and the situation was next door to one hotel with food and five minutes walk from two other pubs, also with food.

Tips:

Glenisle next door was friendly and the food was 8\10 but there were insufficient staff on and waiting times were rather long. The Pierhead Tavern was very good with a decent menu and three real ales (I am not a whisky drinker) but is closed Wed. and Thurs. We did not try the Drift Inn but perhaps should have. The Island is beautiful and the real "Must Visit" is the Arran Heritage Centre at Brodick.

Tips:

Unfortunately some places of interest closed due to Covid 19; for Golfers 2 'trying hilly' courses are open, evening dining the Pierhead Tavern and Lamlash Golf Club both highly recommended but forward booking is vital. If going round the 55 miles of the Island watch out for the pot holes!

A very friendly guesthouse that provides a homely atmosphere and sees to all your needs. The owners were always approachable and very helpful. Social distancing in times of the Corona pandemic was well organised and strict cleanliness granted. As it was difficult to find take-aways or restaurants open at the time, we also appreciated that it was no problem to use the dining room (actually meant for breakfast only)or even ask the owners to heat up the meals we bought in the supermarket.

Tips:

During Corona times, bear in mind that the very few food places open on the island close early, except supermarkets. The variety and beauty of the island scenery and hiking / climbing etc. opportunities should more than compensate for this!

The guest house is situated in the small village of Lamlash and faces the sea. Parking is excellent. Shops and restaurants nearby - all of a high standard. Regular bus services and within easy reach of the Ferry Terminal. Beach is sandy and safe for children. It is essential to book the ferry from Stranraer in advance if travelling by car! We had a wonderful short break and look forward to our next visit to Lilybank Guest House.

We were warmly welcomed as soon as we parked, and offered full access to all facilities, guest bar, fridge and lounge included. The room and en-suite was beautifully presented and the view directly across the water to Holy Island a pleasure to wake up to. Breakfast and June’s easy banter included all guests in warm and friendly conversation. Thank you for your hospitality!

Tips:

Lamlash is a wonderful location away from the bustling crowd of Brodick but still close to plenty of activities. We enjoyed the Heather Queen festivities on the foreshore. June and Colin directed us to plenty of things to do, places to go and golf courses to play on! Best meal was at the Lamlash Golf Course!

Tips:

Had a meal at The PHT nearby which was very nice, varied menu, tasty. Did try The Lamlash Bay hotel but busy, reservation needed (was mid-week too). I believe the Pier Cafe was good for daytime snacks. There are lots of pleasant villages if out in the car, Arran Foods & Kitchen shop in Lamlash a good place for gifts, chutneys, jams etc. Brodicks Fiddlers excellent for lunch. This is a lovely wee B&B right on the shore opposite Holy Isle. Very easy to get to from Brodick for those coming without a car and walking distance to places to eat, supermarket and some gorgeous views - whether seaside, or heading up into the hills nearby. View out of our room was just fab. Bed was comfy and room nice and clean and nice touches with fridge space available downstairs and wee tray with tea/coffee etc. So, great location and pleasant space to be in, but Colin and June were best of all. 30th July 2018:

Colin and June are the perfect hosts. You are made welcome the moment you arrive with a tour of Lilybank and it's facilities. The Lilybank is perfectly placed to tour the island whether on foot or by car. The rooms are cosy and have everything you require. There is a residents lounge which you can use any time. Colin and June have provided a fridge where there is milk and small jugs to take up to your room for the tea and coffee facilities and also if you buy anything that needs to be kept chilled until you leave. On our first evening we bought a bottle of red wine and sat in the lounge watching TV and gazing out to Holy Island, so relaxing. It's been 20 years plus since we last stayed at the Lilybank and all I can say is as perfect as the last time we stayed.

Tips:

The Glenisle Hotel next door to the Lilybank serves exceptional meals a little more expensive than the average but well worth it and the staff are amazing. Also, the Pier Head Hotel is worth a visit.

Fabulous views from bedrooms overlooking Holy Island and Lamlash Bay. Colin and June are excellent hosts and do all they can to make your holiday memorable. Excellent breakfasts.

Tips:

The Pier Head Tavern is a few hundred yards away and provides good quality pub food at reasonable prices. It gets quite busy so booking is advised. Very good art gallery at Whiting Bay. Whiskey tours every hour on the hour at Isle of Arran Distillery in Lochranza. Blackwaterfoot is a very pleasant place to spend some quiet relaxing time. The Best Western Kinloch Hotel there serves very good tea and coffee in the newly refurbished lounge and terrace overlooking the sea.

Immaculately clean establishment. Delicious breakfasts with a good variety to choose from. Colin and June are very friendly and helpful. Our ensuite room was very nice and comfortable and the sea views were beautiful. The location is convenient to shops, restaurants, and walking along the water front. This is a first rate place to stay.

Tips:

There is a lot to see and do on Arran. The natural beautify is spectacular and we found the food at the local restaurants really good. It is a great place for photographers and walkers. Sannox Glen is stunning!

Warm welcome and helpful local information. Room contained all we needed. Liked the bottle of water and different teas. Beds made up while we were out was great. Super breakfast choices and served promptly. Very friendly hosts who we enjoyed chatting with. Would be very happy to stay here again. Lovely location with great views from the breakfast table and handy for the local pub.

Tips:

The Pier Head Tavern is a little gem. Apart from the superb food, the thing that makes it are the excellent staff. They could not have been more helpful and organised. Brodick Castle is well worth looking around with beautiful gardens and grounds. If you like hill-walking, Arran has it all without having to drive very far.

6th June 2017:

As soon as we arrived we were made very welcome by the proprietor Colin who carried our bags to our room. The room was spotlessly clean and very comfortable. There is a residents lounge and also a fridge for residents which is very useful. Fresh milk is provided to use in your room which we thought was particularly good. Breakfast was served in a lovely sea view room. There is a good choice and everything was cooked to perfection. Nothing was too much trouble for our hosts and we would thoroughly recommend this B&B.

Tips:

The Pierhead tavern which is almost next door has very friendly staff and serves good food at reasonable prices. It does get busy though so it's best to book if you want a meal. We liked the fact that dogs are not allowed where people are eating. The Pier cafe in Lamlash serves very good homemade food, again at very reasonable prices. Also the Lochranza Hotel is very hospitable. We enjoyed scones and excellent coffee there when our ferry was delayed. It was a warm and cosy refuge from the bad weather!

A warm welcome, a very enjoyable stay with an excellent view. Friendly hosts, we felt immediately at home. Good breakfast. A nice lounge where travellers can meet.

Tips:

It surprised us that you really need to book a table for restaurants. Be early to book. When relying on the buses for transport this more or less steers the day. It appears that you cannot count on finding a table in a restaurant in the place that you currently are during a walk. Arran is great but if you have the time go to the mainland and visit the Highlands (North and North-West). Above Loch Lomond the scenery is stunning!

Beautifully kept and maintained, this gorgeous wee guest house is one of the best that we have had the pleasure to have stayed in! Run by a lovely couple, Colin & June, who are always keen to engage in conversation and offer tourist advice. They both have the place running like wee sweetie and go out of their way to make everyone feel warm and welcome and are an absolute credit to the island! The fantastic breakfasts served are gorgeous! Try the haggis with the cooked full scottish breakfast, you will love it! One other great aspect about the dining room, is the fact that there is no music playing. This makes for a great atmosphere and encourages conversation between guests. Always pretty booked up, so get looking and booking early! One not to miss!

Lilybank is a pretty, extremely comfortable and cosy place. Everything there is first class and as usual you can notice it in the small details. Colin and June are the most friendly, kind, helpful and wonderful hosts. We had a lovely time and I can't recommend Lilybank strong enough.

Tips:

Arran is beautiful all over. We travelled as a couple, moved around the island in buses and were mainly interested in walking and spotting and photographing wildlife. Our favourite walks were to Glenashdale Falls, and around Lochranza Castle and Brodick Castle. We spotted seals and otters in Lamlash bay, seals in Brodick, deer in Lochranza, and very very briefly a red squirrel in Brodick Castle gardens. We'll definitely come back to Arran as 4 days weren't nearly enough!

Tips:

The Pierpoint pub/restaurant, just a few steps along the road, offers good value meals at realistic prices, as generally we found evening food was expensive and lacked fresh choices on the islands we toured. We have been to lilybank guest house a number of times over the years and have always been delighted with it, always very clean, and breakfast is delicious sets us up for the day, looking forward to future visits, Colin and June are always extremely welcoming.

Tips:

The restaurants in Lamlash are good, and you are sure to find something that suits, and within walking distance as well, which is a bonus. We always g to jam factory to get stocked up, the cheese factory is a must, but on a nice day it is good to find somewhere quiet to just sit and enjoy the view.

We had a wonderful four nights stay at Lilybank Guest House. Colin and June were very friendly and welcoming, so was Baggins, the elderly cat. Fabulous views of Lamlash Bay and Holy Isle, spotlessly clean, comfortable bed, lovely room, excellent breakfasts with plenty of choice and very generous portions. Can't wait to go back.

Tips:

Lots to see and do on Arran. Walking, golfing, horse riding, beautiful beaches, fantastic scenery wherever you go, lots of places of interest to visit if the weather is not good. We had our evening meals at Lamlash Bay Hotel and Pierhead Bar, both excellent, good food and friendly staff. We also had afternoon tea in the beautiful riverside gardens at Lagg Hotel. We found all the people we met in bars, cafes, shops, etc were extremely friendly and helpful.

So grateful to you both for such a warm welcome and for being so accommodating before, during and after the Arranman race. Lilybank Guest House had THE best location and was perfect in every way. Your rooms were lovely, the breakfast delicious and the living space ideal. We really enjoyed our visit to the island and Lamlash was a great base for exploring and walking as well as a lovely environment to sit and look out to sea.

Tips:

Excellent meals at both the Glenisle Hotel next door and the Pierhead Tavern up the road. I would recommend both. Wonderful walk up Goat Fell with views to die for - fairly arduous, but an easy route to find from the Arran Distillery next to Brodick Castle. Brodick Castle grounds (NTS) are well worth a visit, especially the lovely walled garden.

Tips:

A ferry to the Holy Isle is a must. We spent a whole day there, walking round the island and climbing the hillsl. A most memorable day. I could not recommend this guest house more, and I have been to many such establishments aimed at walkers. Service is exceptional, from little extras in the room that really add to your comfort, such as electric blankets, extra heaters, to the excellent knowledge of Jane and Colin, which helped us make the most of our stay. They simply cannot do enough for you. Rooms are lovely, immaculate and turned over to a very high standard. Guests are made to feel very welcome and at home. There is also a lovely lounge with log fire provided. We has an excellent, memorable stay and would definitely return.

Tips:

The Glenisle next door does amazing food. Lilybank has a fridge for the use of guests, which would have been helpful for us to know prior to our stay, as we considered bringing food to make sandwiches. Great little extra. Definitely pick the brain of the owners to help you make the most of the island - their knowledge is invaluable.

We have stayed at the Lilybank for the last 7 years and that must say it all. Colin and June really look after all their guests and do their utmost to make everyone feel comfortable and welcome. Highly recommended. Five star throughout.

Tips:

Golf clubs on Arran are all very welcoming and many serve food most of the day so don't discount them when considering somewhere to eat. Tip: many eating places stop serving at 9.00pm (sometime sooner if out of season)so don't leave it too late.

Don't miss the rings of Standing Stones off the string road, especially if the weather is good. We enjoyed the distillery tour (Thanks, guide Richard), and our meal at the 1869 restaurant.

Thank you both for a excellent stay - weather was really kind to us for time of year - which made to visit to Arran even better! Will be back!

Tips:

Drift Inn in Lamlash for food - also the Kinloch Hotel at Blackwaterfoot. Best way around the island is by bus, reliable and a day ticket is good value for money, hop on and off all day.

Charming facilities and charming hosts - Colin and June. Location is incredible, by the water. Room 5 has a great view, but can be noisy with traffic(!) at night. Lots of information about where to hike and what to see. This was a perfect ending of a two+ week holiday. Thank you.

Tips:

Although the restaurants were not full, they required reservations. We enjoyed the pub, Drift Inn, for a casual and friendly meal, no reservations needed.

10th September 2014:

The Lilybank Guest House has a beautiful location. At breakfast, guests are treated to a view of the Holy Isle from their breakfast table - a wonderful start to the day! Although the place is rather small and the corridors a little pokey, the rooms are well-sized. The staff (consisting of June, Colin and their cat Baggins) are very friendly and warm. My partner and I would stay here again if we are in Arran.

Tips:

Glenisle, next door, does excellent food and a good range of local tipple. Creelers serves very good and fresh shellfish, if a little pricy. Coire Fhionn Lochan is a magical place for hikers and walkers. The whisky distillery in Lochranza is a pleasant place to be in the afternoon (learn a few things about how whisky is made and drink the samples). The cafe in the distillery is also rather good, especially the cheese, smoked fish, and meat platter to share.

28th August 2014:

Arran is a magic island and our short-stay holiday was enriched by our stay with Colin and June at Lilybank Guest House. They were very welcoming and interesting hosts who made breakfast a time of enjoyable conversation. I was delighted that kippers (highly recommended) were available to order. The guest house is conveniently and beautifully located. Lamlash is a short bus-ride from the Brodick ferry terminal and the guest house is on the sea-front looking over Lamlash Bay to Holy Isle. The house is homely, reflecting the interests and character of the owners. It is clean, comfortable, tastefully furnished and well appointed. Downside? I cannot think of one. It has my wholehearted endorsement.

Tips:

The golf course is a little way outwith Lamlash but it is well worth a visit to the restaurant. The food, service and prices were good. It was less busy than the restaurants (booking recommended) within the town.

Great stay, wish I could have stayed longer. Very friendly and helpful.

Tips:

There appears to be a few new restaurants in Lamlash but I didn't manage the time to try them. The ex Aldersyde (Lamlash Bay) and Glenisle Bistro. Holy Island always a tranquil place to visit.

20th August 2014:

A well placed, welcoming location. The accomodation was light, airy and very clean. We were made very welcome, shown the various features of the accomodation and advised as to various options for meals and drinks. The information supplied in the room was comprehensive and useful. Breakfast was excellent. The view over Holy Island is delightful, even when it's raining.

Tips:

If approaching from Whiting Bay give plenty of room when turning in, it is quite a tight turn! The closing of the PHT is a loss to Lamlash, however we found the Lamlash Hotel commodious. Eating locally, the golf club is well priced if somewhat lacking in character, the Lagg is good and we enjoyed the fish at the Drift Inn although we did not like the COLD plates.

A warm, friendly welcome. Lovely breakfast. Comfy beds, which is definitely a huge plus when away from home.

Tips:

Unfortunately weather not good the 2 days we were there, but that did not retract from the beauty of the island. For a 'get away from it all break' would definitely recommend. Food in the Drift Inn and Arran Bay Hotel did the job. Apparently new owners in Drift Inn who were perhaps finding their feet. Felt tables and service could have been organised better. If ur a cheese fan, then the creamery is well worth a visit and Arran Aromatics........well what can one say ladies!!
