Malcom & Julie went above & beyond to make you feel welcome, room was perfect, sea views amazing scenery. Just home & want to go back.
Tips:We had a car, & travelled around whole island, near guest house bottom road is the coffee pot & pub/restaurant shurig. Very friendly staff & locals. Actually whole island was very friendly. 10 minutes drive & you are in Lamlash, beautiful village, then another 10 mins you are in Brodick. Also another beautiful village. You won't be disappointed.

Made to feel at home. Lovely clean and comfortable bed with sea view. Good continental breakfast. Very quiet . Nice to have comfy settees to sit inside and outside seats too. Situated on road to golf course above the shore road and just off the path to Glenashdale Falls - well worth a visit.
Tips:Whiting Bay lovely place to shore watch and for rock pools . Flat walk for long way along front. Good sandy beach - playground and walk to Kingscross. High walk to Glenashdale Falls, iron Age Fort and Giant’s Graves and along forestry roads . Some benches and public toilets on shore road. If using buses need to check times though they are more frequent at Whiting Bay and Lamlash to Brodick than to round the island. Art gallery and putting Green open on Sunday . Café normally open on Sunday but had a function. Shurig Bar open at 3pm -welcoming with meals from 5pm no bookings taken. ( check opening days) Bowling Green and pool table .

We spent a lovely 4 days on the island and Viewbank was the ideal base for our stay. Malcolm and Julie were wonderful hosts and certainly have a very welcoming and comfortable guesthouse. Although our time spent in the accomodation was very limited because of our very busy golf schedule, the time we did spend was memorable and those views, amazing!! Breakfast was of a very high quality and certainly set us up for our day ahead on the links. Thank you so much Malcolm and Julie for a fantastic stay. We will definately consider Viewbank when we return 😁
Tips:Arran is a great place to play golf with some interesting short courses and challenging longer courses. Great for cycling, especually the Arran loop on a lovely sunny day. You will find it hard to beat the views. Arran offers it all when it comes to outdoor activities but also has lovely cafes, shops and restaurants for the slower paced days. ❤️ ARRAN, Scotland in miniature.

We were three guests. Malcolm and Julie were excellent hosts. A great breakfast was provided with a large choice of food on the menu. The bedrooms were spotlessly clean as was the en suite and the shared bathroom. The beds were comfortable. Couldn't fault Viewbank Guest House in any way.
Tips:As there aren't too many restaurants in Whiting Bay providing evening meals, making a booking is essential. If you have a car you may want to consider going to Lamlash for an evening meal. We did and went to the Glenisla Hotel. We weren't disappointed.

What a find, we couldn’t believe our good fortune in booking the View Bank guest house. The accommodation and views are perfect and the hosts always there with a smile for anything you may need. Breakfasts were the best we had on our travels. The word that comes to mind for everything to do with our stay at View Bank if ‘generous’. Thank you for the perfect last few days of our Scottish excursion
Tips:There is so much to do on Arran, if you have the time enjoy the colours of the sunset and watching for the otters. Lamlash bay hotel was definitely the best place to eat

Julie and Malcolm are lovely hosts, very helpful, friendly and gave us lots of "good to know" tips and advise. Fab breakfast too!
Tips:Drift Inn is a great place for food and atmosphere. Pierhead Tavern is fab for a drink, food and live music. Glen Rosa is stunning to visit and do a bit of wild swimming. Kildonnan is great for spotting seals, we saw two. Glenashdale Falls is spectacular!

A very welcoming place to stay, once you have found it! But follow the Julie and Malc's instructions and you won't go wrong! There is a quiet, short walk down to the beach without having to use your car. Breakfasts were wonderful, a good choice and nicely cooked and presented. Also lots of advice available for things to do and places to visit.
Tips:Restaurants are few and far between and the Guest house advised us to book evening meals in advance, which was good advice. However, this did restrict us to one or two restaurants. A few cafes are closed, presumably since Covid, which is sad, but we managed to find everything we needed. The walk up Goatfell was tough but rewarding, and the path is very clear, if the weather is reasonable. We loved the "laidback" attitude of the whole island. A place to get away from it all. Can't wait to be back.

Lovely rural location. Slightly off the beaten track. With stunning views from the front across whitting bay. The owners are welcoming, polite and efficient, without losing that homely feel to the place. There is a large lounge for guest usage.
Tips:We enjoyed our meals at The "Glenisle Hotel" and The "Drift Inn", the drift inn has a younger clientele and a wider range on the menu. The Lagg distillery is a must for any whiskey drinkers! As this new distillery is rekindling the tradition of whiskey making on the south of the island.

A lovely. quiet location with most friendly, helpful & professional owners & staff who were able to accommodate us at somewhat short notice due to a family funeral. We would not hesitate to stay at Viewbank again & thank Julie & Malcolm for their hospitality.
Tips:"Most" restaurant at Eden Lodge at the foot of the lane & facing the sea is close by. The distilleries at Lochranza & Lagg/Kilmory have good cafe facilities & great views with a dram on the side for the so minded, as we find ourselves when passing! Brodick Castle & gardens are charming. Walks up Glens Sannox, Rosa & North Glen Sannox are always rewarded as is the Arran Coastal Path. The Fish & Chip shop in Brodick is VG, PHT, Drift Inn, Glen Isle & Lamlash Bay Hotels recommended, sadly not the Lagg Hotel in recent years.

Having stayed at The Viewbank House last year we returned with friends this year and it did not disappoint. Julie and Mal are the perfect hosts and the treasure trove of music and golf memorabilia on display are really impressive. A great place to stay and no doubt one we will return to in the future. Huge thanks to Julie and Mal.
Tips:Arran is a popular place these days so make sure you book restaurants well ahead of your Stay. Most at Eden Lodge in Whiting Bay is worth a visit, and it also has a bowling green outside that you can use at a very reasonable price. Our favourite restaurant is the Drift Inn in Lamlash. Pierhead Tavern in Lamlash has a roof top bar which is great for a sunny day. If you want to avoid poor service and over priced food give the Brodick Bar and Brasserie a body swerve. Arran is a golfers dream, with Lamlash offering a good challenge and spectacular views. It’s bar prices and friendly service make it a great advert for Arran. GlenAshdale Falls in Whiting Bay are also a great attraction and if you are feeling energetic well worth the climb.

I have stayed in Viewbank many times over the years. My experience has always been one of welcome , friendliness, and the care of individual visitors and their needs. Viewbank is immaculately clean and inviting and the breakfast is superb. Malcolm and Julie who own and run this lovely guest house go above and beyond in the care of their guests. They are knowledgeable about the island and always on hand to suggest places to walk and visit for those who are visiting Arran for the first time.
Tips:Viewbank is off the main road up a hill. Good for regular walkers and those who have a car. The view is wonderful. There are a couple of restaurants within walking distance and a local deli. There are lots of walks both hill and beach walks. There are visits to Arran Heritage Museum, Brodick Castle, Trips to the Holy Isle with a Buddhist Retreat, Cycling and hire, 7 Gold courses, water sports. These are just some of the attractions and activities to enjoy.

Very welcoming, helpful and friendly owners who have worked hard to make sure that Viewbank is covid-secure. Place was spotlessly clean and breakfast was plentiful and delicious. Thank you!
Tips:Walk up to Glenashdale waterfall from the guesthouse and then onto the Giants Graves for spectacular views of Holy Isle and northern hills. Park at church at the northern end of the bay and walk down onto Sandbraes beach. Lovely at any time of the day but spectacular at sunrise. Walk to Kings Cross point (closest point to Holy Isle) to see ancient fortifications. Pierhead Tavern, The Drift Inn and Glenisle Hotel in Lamlash all recommended for lunch or dinner. The Shore cafe in Whiting Bay is excellent for lunch. The Lagg Inn at Kilmory is reliably great for dinner too. For one of the best beaches on the island at Kilmory, park at the Lagg Inn, cross the bridge up the hill and follow footpath over farmland to Kilmory beach. (Wide, sandy beach, often empty as is off the main road)

Tips:The Viewbank Guest House is just in the right place for a walk to Glenashdale Waterfall. On Arran there is loads of wildlife to see Stags at Lochranza and Seals and otters at Kildonan.

As always a most enjoyable stay. The usual warm welcome from Mal & Julie. great breakfast, spotless rooms. Everything possible done to keep us safe - plenty of sanitisers, personal tables for breakfast. Well organised bathroom facilities. Mal even delivered a set of keys which I had left in my room to me whilst I was in the ferry departure queue.

The guest house is sited on top of a hill with fantastic views from my front facing bedroom. As I didn't have a car the owner Malcolm very kindly drove down to meet me off the local bus from Brodick. My single room was very comfortable with a handy sink and everything else I needed. I had to share bathroom facilities with another room but it's directly across the corridor and also another separate toilet, so sharing with others was never a problem. Mal and Julie are very friendly and chatty and breakfast was plentiful with a vast choice of foods and the best pot of tea I've had anywhere! Tips:We recommend the Coast restaurant, also the deli/take away a few doors down from there, which is good for take away rolls/sandwiches. Goat Fell is a must but avoid weekends in high season or Bank Holidays as it gets very busy up there if you start from Brodick Castle.. Your breakfast and the range of choices is very good.
Tips:The things to see and do are well documented in the leaflets you see everywhere. I was somewhat surprised at all the restaurants having similar "bistro like/style" menus. The best was Fiddlers in Brodick because of the live music, entertaining but not too loud to drown your conversation.

Lovely friendly comfortable place to stay. Very quiet and peaceful. Only downside was the shower in the ensuite of room 1, it kept going cold.

Owner Response:Many thanks for taking the time to review Viewbank and we were delighted you enjoyed yourselves. We were however concerned that you mentioned the shower. Because we are on a hill we have extra water pumps so this should not have happened. If we had known we could have adjusted the pump to ensure the water remained at constant pressure ensuring the correct temperature. This has now been rectified. Thank you for bringing this to our attention. Lets hope its not too long before you visit Arran again.

We have just spent a fabulous long weekend on Arran with a great number of family and friends for a special celebration. We booked all the rooms at Viewbank for the occasion and Julie and Malcolm were wonderful at accommodating all our needs. All our requests from young and old were catered for - the breakfasts were amazing, nothing was a problem and all in all we were very well looked after. Thank you.
Tips:Arran is a great place to get away from it all. Come and relax, enjoy wonderful walks, make sure you manage up to Glenashdale Falls - not to be missed - and if you want to enjoy fabulous food in a relaxed environment, it has to be Felicity's at Eden Lodge.

Very comfortable beds, good bathroom - excellent breakfasts - we will have to return!! Road needs care, but it is not in Viewbank capability to do anything about that.
Tips:Felicity's at Eden Lodge, near the foot of the access road, provide good evening meals, including a children's menu, at a price which is not excessive. There are other places to dine in Whiting Bay. When it rains in Brodick and Lamlash, it can be dry in Whiting Bay, and even drier in Kildonan. Good cheese made in Kilmory, and good preserves at Lamlash!

Tips:The Coffee Pot at Whiting Bay is a very friendly coffee shop/snack bar which serves excellent meals and snacks at reasonable prices. They serve good quality food. Brodick Castle is well worth a visit and also looking for the seals at Kildonan, it is amazing how many you can spot! Lochranza is also a lovely place especially seeing the deer in the sea at sunset! Very helpful, friendly service. Julie provided me with a hat as we arrived unprepared for basking in the sunshine.
Tips:Enjoyed a delicious burger at a newly opened establishment - The Shore - I think - in Whiting Bay. Was surprised there were not more eating places in Brodick given how many b&bs there seem to be on the island. It was fine during the day for lunch/snacks but were advised by VIC to book at night. Loads to see and do - especially if you like walking, cycling etc We walked to the Glenashdale Falls - lovely even after a dry spell so they must be fantastic after a lot of rain. We were only there 2 nights but would like to return to climb Goat Fell and Robert the Bruce's cave. It seemed to us that the bus service was more frequent to the South of the island. We took a bus to Lochranza in the north to visit the castle. I would advise anyone using public transport to get a copy of the bus time table on arrival. It is all manageable as long as you plan in advance. Also enjoyed a visit to Arran Aromatics and the Cheese factory - situated conveniently next to each other. Likewise in Lochranza you can visit the castle and the distillery as they are within walking distance of each other. My daughter and I travelled to Arran for the first time and loved it. I'm sure we'll be back with the rest of the family.

A friendly greeting awaits from both Julie and Malcolm, not just on arrival but at breakfast time each day also. Comfy beds and a cosy lounge make this a home from home. Situated on a quiet street but with easy access this makes for the perfect location.
Tips:The breakfast menu says "....choose as many or ALL of the items listed as you like...." prepare for longer walks to burn off the additional calories. Breakfasts really good with locally butchered bacon, sausages, haggis plus lots more. Our hosts recommended restaurants in the village which were excellent also. All in all an extremely enjoyable visit. Thank you Malcolm and Julia.
Tips:We went to eat in Coast, And Trafalgar in Whiting Bay, plus the Glenisle Hotel in Lamlash. Played golf at Shiskine Golf course and Corrie. Standing Stones at Machrie Moor, walk along shore at Kildonan, walk around perimeter of Brodick Castle, Arran Aromatics, Arran Cheeses, Lochranza.....lots and lots to see and beautiful scenery and views everywhere

Lovely place with a lot of thoughtful touches such as the fridge and the books and games in the lounge. The breakfasts were lovely with a lot of variety. I'm not usually a big haggis fan but the haggis you served up was beautiful. You gave everyone a nice welcome which was nice.
Tips:Nearby Lamlash is a pretty place with a great view and the trip to Holy Isle looks interesting.

I felt a warm welcome from you on arrival and we were very grateful. It made us feel comfortable and completely at home. We were especially pleased to be able to use the lounge. It would have been a bit difficult for Christine, Gerald and I if we had been forced to go to bed when we came in! The location is fine as long as people have a car. I would have found it difficult on my own. Somebody could possibly make a fortune giving lifts up and down the hill but I suppose there wouldn't be enough takers. Thank you again it was lovely.
Tips:The Drift Inn was fantastic, we really enjoyed it, lovely surroundings and great staff. Arran Aromatics at Brodick is always a favourite along with the Cheese shop, the Gift shop and the Cafe, all well worth a visit if the weather isn't too good. Amazing beaches, wild life and walks. The Fairy Glen walk, not far from the Hotel is particularly lovely. Wonderful views and a picnic table at the top. I could go on all day, can't wait to return.

Thanks Mal & Julie for making our overnight stay really enjoyable. PS. We really loved the chocolate box in the living room! Can't go wrong with special touches like that.
Tips:Coast Bistro for dinner! - an absolute must. Fantastic food, friendly staff & great view. An all around enjoyable experience, will definitely visit again when we're back in Whiting Bay, even if it's just to have the salmon again! Well recommended.

Lovely Guest House in a peaceful, elevated location, operated to perfection by the owners, Julie and Malcolm. From the moment we arrived, we were made to feel welcome and at ease and left feeling as though we'd been staying with friends. Well equipped and well presented room (en-suite) with use of a pleasant lounge and lovely sunny (fortunately for us visiting in February) breakfast room. 10/10 for the breakfast too!
Tips:Take Julie's tips for places to eat in the evening - we weren't disappointed!

We were made very welcome on arrival by Malcolm, at breakfast the next morning Julie introduced herself both were very helpfull through out our stay. On the last day due to adverse weather the ferry that we were booked on was cancelled the following one was also cancelled with the possibility there would be no further sailings that day. We phoned Julie who said there would be a bed there which was a great relief.

Malcolm and Julie are very friendly, kind and helpful! They help us in every way they can, and provide us interesting information about anything in the area. The Guest House is very clean and confortable, and the Scottish is the best one I tried so far! Is better having a car, or a bycicle because there is not much in the area and the bus service may take a while. If you like to walk and not afraid by the scottish weather is definitely your place :)
Tips:Even pub for take some dinner, coffee pot is nice to have a snack. If you like to walk and cycle there are many path in the area!

Had no vehicle, so be prepared for a bit of an uphill walk... But worth it! Excellent amenities and even offered a full vegetarian breakfast... A big plus for me!
Tips:Great wee restaurant in Whiting Bay, but unfortunately shut on a Monday ( however had a great lunch there the next day). But good bus service, so had dinner in Brodick that night, and walked off dinner getting back to B & B.
