It was such a lovely stay, I'm going againg next year. I had all I needed and more. The food was delicious, varied and kept me going forever. After a lovely long days walking I felt right at home relaxed on the sofa reading one of their many interesting books in the breakfast room.

Tips:

I love walking and it felt so safe, so long as you have a map and good walking gear as it's very uphill and down dale - stunning, amazing, beautiful. Make use of the excellent bus service.

Beautiful home in a lovely location by the water. Relaxing, comfortable room with a superb array of teas, coffee, vegan snacks and fruit … oh and a fridge for our oat milk and water. Lovely soaps and toiletries in the bathroom. I wish we could have stayed longer, if only to try everything on the amazing breakfast menu! A perfect place to stay.

31st July 2024:

Accommodation was of a very high standard- both the room , the dining room and lounge area. Some very useful Arran related books available. The breakfast content and presentation was beyond expectation and to a standard never experienced before. Upfront advice on parking and eating out in the evening was very useful.

Tips:

The eating establishments in Lamlash are to a fairly high standard with the Drift Inn just edging out the others. The bus service is very good and will get you to most places. Great walks on the island. Book ‘40 best Arran Walks’ will give you all the options.

We could not think of anything that you could do different to make our stay better - apart from the weather but that's not in your domain! The room was excellent and your breakfasts will live in the memory for a long time. You also made us feel so welcome and yet gave us our own space, a balance not easily achieved but you managed well. We hope one day to come back and enjoy another stay with you. Lastly - thank you.

Tips:

The local pubs are not the greatest for a vegan dinner so consider going further afield such as Brodick.

You gave us a very warm welcome in your beautiful home. The breakfasts were amazing , very special. Huge choice and such attention to detail. - cordon vert, and the room was comfortable and clean, spacious and light. More than all of that, there is a lovely 'feel' within the house. It was a perfect couple of nights.

Tips:

We hired bikes in Brodick - and if you cycle towards Corrie, there is a) a fairly flat road and b) a nice hotel with a vegan menu. From Lamlash, we also walked from Dyemill on riverside paths through beautiful woods, and you can head up towards Loch Urie for a more challenging hike.

We really enojoyed our stay at Stonewater House, and are just sorry that owing to the ferry cancellation, we could not be there for longer. However, we will certainly be back. It was a brief but lovely stay, in a utterly beautiful setting. And very nice to meet both Jules and Carol, who made us feel very welcome. The breakfasts were delicious and prepared with such care, and wonderfully presented. Thank you.

After being unable to make it the first night due to all of the ferry’s being cancelled I hopped on the first early ferry the next morning and Carol and Jules had prepared me a breakfast. It honestly set me up for the day! The whole B&B was amazing and clean and bright and airy! I was very lucky to meet people while I was there. Sitting chatting on the balcony and then at the cafe across the road from us. There was so much choice on the breakfast that I honestly was never hungry! It was the best breakfasts I’ve ever had staying anywhere! I raved about it the whole time on the phone to my husband! The shower had so much power I couldn’t believe it. Also the toiletries that were provided were amazing. There was fresh fruit and protein bars in the room where I stayed. There was a vast ray of books to read and a really comfortable lounge. I stayed in the double room which had an amazing view of the seafront. I honestly cannot give this B&B enough praise! I am already looking at dates next year so I can stay again.

Tips:

I ate at the Pierhead Tavern, reserve ahead because it does get really busy and you cannot be guaranteed a table! I had a cuppa at the cafe across the road. They had a variety of home baked cakes and pastries. I walked along the beach which was beautiful. Lamlash has a list of hidden beauties and I know I have still not discovered them all!

Totally recommend Stonewater as your base for exploring The Isle of Arran. Totally relaxed atmosphere. Rooms are most perfectly set up with all that you need. Dining area always set up beautiful....and the lounge area is at your disposal for either sitting, reading, chatting with others or quiet contemplation. Helpful hosts...most lovely souls. A magical, relaxed stay 😀

Tips:

To stay longer than 3 days to experience and see all that Arran has to offer you in the way of eateries, activities, scenery and sheer beauty. Have a good level of fitness if you are going to walk places as I did, but if you want to see it all definitely bring a vehicle. Everything you need is here. 100% recommend as a getaway to recharge and 😔

We had a wonderful time. Stonewater House is in the perfect location with the most inspiring view over Holy Isle. That's a great view to wake up to. The room was comfortable and the shower was blissful. We had different breakfasts every day for a week and each one tasted like the best vegan breakfasts we'd ever had. Really fantastic. But what impressed us most was the care and effort you both clearly put in to maintaining a wonderful environment and keeping your guests happy. The 9.9 star ratings you advertise in the window are fully deserved.

Tips:

Stonewater House is in a perfect location. If you're travelling without a car (which we recommend) the bus routes across the island are excellent. You have to check the timetable and give yourself enough time, but travelling by bus is a great way to see the island. The Mogtour was excellent, as were the boat trips to Holy Isle. The views on the walk to King's Cave were breathtaking. Really worth the trek. The island is a beautiful place to visit with plenty to do as long as you don't mind a bit of walking. There are plenty of places in easy walking distance of Stonewater House and around the island that serve excellent vegan food. We had no trouble finding suitable places to eat.

Lovely clean room and very comfortable bed. Very friendly welcome from Carol and Jules. The breakfast was amazing and kept us going all day. Carol advised us of some local walks we could do and we borrowed one of their "walking route" books from their vast collection. I will definitely stay here again.

Tips:

You need to book a table for your evening meal, we used The Pierhead Tavern on both nights. We wanted to use The Drift Inn for one of the nights but it was fully booked. Next time we will book the meals a few days before we arrive. However the food at The Pierhead Tavern was very good. If you get a chance you should see the Glenashdale Falls in Whiting Bay.

Brilliant stay with Carol and Jules. I was beaten by the amount of breakfast a couple of times- so make sure you’re ready for it! Couldn’t fault anything! Lovely books to borrow and big bottles of gorgeous Faith in Nature toiletries to use. The house has a view over the pier and Holy Isle, and is a central location near pubs and little shops and the Pharmacy. I will return!

Tips:

There are lots of leaflets provided at Stonewater House- both in the room info pack and the foyer. So it depends what you are in to! There will be something for you and C and J can advise re vegan food places.

Wish we could give Stonewater House at least six stars! To say that Stonewater House is by far the best guest house we’ve ever stayed in simply doesn’t do it justice. This place is truly special. It’s run by Jules and Carol, both of whom are such kind, generous and welcoming people. Arrival and room: We arrived by bus from the ferry and Stonewater House is conveniently situated in the middle of Lamlash less than a hundred yards from the stop. They came out to greet us warmly. Jules carried our heavy case up to our room (the large one at the front). And what a room! Large, with genuinely very comfy king-size bed (with memory foam mattress). We both have back problems and the excellent bed was a real bonus. Stacks of storage space too. The beautiful view is across the water to Holy Island. On arrival, the fridge had been stocked with non-dairy milk and cold water. The fruit bowl contained apples, bananas and clementines plus fruit and nut bars. Next to the kettle were a range of teas and, instead of the usual gut-rotting stuff in most hotel rooms, there were high-end caf and decaf coffee bags. All items were restocked daily to replace whatever we’d consumed. The en suite bathroom is also immaculate, with the good sized walk-in shower and a wide range of toiletries (cruelty free of course). Breakfast: There’s a huge menu of items from which to choose. The quality, quantity, flavour, variety and even presentation are all absolutely superb, in fact my only complaint was that, delicious as everything was, the portions were invariably too generous and we ate more than we ought. Look at the menu on their website and you’ll understand! If you’ve ever felt less than convinced that vegan food can be delicious and satisfying, the fare at Stonewater House will make you think again. Other remarks: In the large breakfast / living room, there’s not only a great range of reading materials and games but there’s even a rather good Epiphone acoustic guitar available for guests to use - so I didn’t have to go cold turkey after all! On the day we left, to save us lugging our bags onto the bus, Jules volunteered to drive us to the ferry. Don’t hesitate. Just book!

Tips:

Within a few hundred yards there are several pubs serving vegan meals. Do book as they get busy. The vegan pakoras in the Pier Head Tavern just a few yards away were especially good,as was the vegetable curry (the chef ensured this was vegan for me and it was delicious). There's also an Indian take-away at the far end of the village with most dishes cooked in vegetable oil. To get a feel for this lovely island, and even if you have a car or bike, take buses round the whole island (323, then 324 from Blackwaterfoot) so you can enjoy the views without having to concentrate on the windy roads.

We received a warm welcome to a large comfortable home. Everything you need is in the home and everything is very clean. Carol and Jules are extremely generous hosts and we were looked after very well, they can advise and help you discover the Island

Tips:

The village of Lamlash is spread out around the bay, there is a large green facing the sea where you can relax. Several Pubs are dotted along the road and there is a nice Deli by the old pier plus a minimarket and art&crafts shops. Lamlash is on the coastal path and there are plenty of walks around. We were pleased to find a cycle / walking trail through the pine forests that leads all the way to the south of the Island - about 12km

If I were to sum up our experience here in a word it would be “generosity” - the amazing breakfasts, the little touches in the room, the care and attention Jules and Carol provide to guests, it was just fantastic. We enjoyed our time on Arran exploring Brodick castle and gardens, Glenashdale falls, the King’s caves, Machrie Moor stone circles and the coastal path. Each morning we were set up with a huge breakfast - really appreciated having iced water, juice and tea provided along with the 2 course breakfast. It was an experience in itself to enjoy whilst looking out at the harbour views. We ordered a delicious packed lunch (although the breakfast kept us going so well we’d have been fine without!). Jules was always on hand to ensure everything was well. There is a small fridge in the communal space. We slept so well each night. Although the road is near, there is no traffic after early evening and the bed was so comfy. The room was refreshed (as well as snacks) while we were out and about and we enjoyed the in-room reading material and clipper teas for quiet evenings. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Stonewater House.

Tips:

The email sent by Jules and Carol on booking tells you all you need to know and was much appreciated.

We adored the B&B and are missing it already. The love put into running the house really shows and we couldn't be more grateful for the excellent hospitality and the fact that the hosts were willing to go the extra mile to make us feel welcome. The breakfast was the best I've ever had and with regards to the surrounding scenery, I don't think they could have picked a better location on Arran.

Tips:

Everything you could need for your stay can be found within a few minutes walk of the B&B with tasty vegan options available in all the local restaurants and pubs. From watching gannets plunge diving from the beach to kayaking, snorkling, hiking on Holy Island, there's all sorts to do just a short walk from the front door. For venturing further afield, the bus routes served us well for visiting King's Caves and for starting our hike of 874m up Goatfell.

Couldn't be a more welcoming and comfortable place to stay with the most superb breakfasts and lots of lovely books to read. The location is perfect, overlooking the harbour, but sheltered from the wind when it needs to be. Highly recommended, can't wait to return.

Tips:

A beautiful walk to the waterfalls in nearby Whiting Bay with Brodick Castle and gardens also a few miles in the other direction. Some lovely cafés and restaurants in Lamlash and Brodick. Superb dining in Brodick Brasserie, great pub food in the Pierhead Tavern, Lamlash, almost next door.

Stonewater House is a lovely B&B in the marvellous Arran Island. The hosts Carol and Jules are warm, welcoming and very helpful: our ferry to the island was cancelled last minute due to a technical fault. Carol and Jules really went the extra mile to help us getting to Arran via an alternative route, which was so much appreciated. The B&B is spotlessly clean and full of nice touches: complementary fresh fruit and chocolate goodies, and very nice toiletries were also included. On top of this our room was tidied up daily! The location is perfect: right by the coast and only a few minutes walk from two great pubs. The breakfast was outstanding: very substantial, plenty of choice and absolutely delightful!!

What a great place to stay! Friendly hosts who take a genuine interest in your care and comfort. Spacious, clean and light rooms filled with plenty of fruit, snacks and drink options to keep you going. Comfy bed with soft sheets and shower with incredible water pressure, soft towels and quality toiletries provided made it that little bit better. Finally the breakfast - how could I give this anything but praise! Such a large and varied selection to choose from which set us up for the day ahead brilliantly.

Tips:

Hosts made some recommendations for where to eat - however some don't have menus online and the one we opted for - The Pierhead Tavern wasn't particularly great - one option discontinued, another unavailable and mistakes on the menu.

Stonewater House was a wonderful place to stay. Carole and Jules could not be more helpful, the room was beautifully appointed and scrupulously clean, and the breakfasts... fantastic variety, delicious flavours, with everything of the highest quality. The only problem is the temptation to keep eating when your groaning tummy is telling you to stop! What a treat.

Our party have stayed before and this stay didn't disappoint. Service is second to none. And whilst none of our party are vegans, the food was very much enjoyed. There are little touches that set this B&B apart - water, fruit and snacks available in the room (free). Brilliant and plentiful quantity of bathroom toiletries. We'll be back - superb. No complaints or grumbles!

Tips:

A few good local restaurants but try out food in Lamlash Golf Club - excellent value and quality. If you have time climb Goatfell - well worth the effort - not a Munro but it starts at sea level so it's a fair hike!
