We booked two of the cottages for a group trip, and had the most amazing long weekend at Hamilton Cottages. Incredibly well-equipped, so self-catering was a breeze, and we loved the mini-library and games in the cottages. Extra points for the barbecues, games room, beautiful views straight out the window, and cute lambs right over the wall! Ideal location for getting around Arran, so perfect for people who want to explore the whole island.
Tips:Fresh eggs from Fiona and Matt's hens are a must! The bakery in Blackwaterfoot was a big hit, and the sunset from the Kinloch Hotel was second to none - and great food to boot.

We discovered this gem on Google Maps and it exceeded all our expectations! The accommodation is modern, immaculately clean and finished with great attention to detail. The views are absolutely stunning and the location couldn’t be better. Just a short distance from King’s Cave, Machrie Moor standing stones, lovely hiking trails and a beautiful beach. Fiona, the owner gave us a warm welcome and was incredibly helpful throughout our stay. A truly wonderful place to stay on Arran - highly recommended!

Thank you so much for sharing your beautiful cottage with us. Everything was absolutely fabulous, the rooms were beautifully fitted and furnished to a really high standard and the location was fabulous for an Island visit. We cannot recommend you highly enough. And the freerange eggs a huge bonus. Everything was perfect!
Tips:The cottage is absolutely fabulous, but it is rural. We cooked ourselves a couple of nights (the coop opposite the ferry terminal was great for a weekly shop) and went out to a couple of pubs (The Corrie and the Drift Inn). Would recommend the distillery tour (and obviously some whisky to take home) and a trip to Aaran cheese and Arran aromatics! Be sure to pick up a 20% off voucher for Aaron aromatics, we found one in the Corrie hotel reception! If you are up for a climb go to Goat Fell, whilst its only 5 miles, its a steep climb, but the views are stunning on a clear day!

2nd August 2024:
We rented all three cottages for a family holiday. So I can confirm that the standard of the cottages are all the same.....excellent. Everything you need is there, from kitchen utensils to books to read and family games to play. The separate games room was fab for the wee kids and the big kids Fiona and Matt were very welcoming and approachable. They live beside the cottages and were often out and about in the grounds but always stopped to chat and helped us with any queries we had. Looking forward to coming back Fiona/Matt and see how the pool is getting on and hope your idea of a wood burning sauna works out.
Tips:If bring a dog take a long lead as all dogs must be on a lead at all times and can not let off the lead for rhe safety of the hens and sheep. Make sure when looking for kitchen equipment you find the wee "secret drawer" in the top drawers in the kitchens....we missed this at first then found them.

The cottage was perfect. We had a lovely time. It is very well organised and there is everything you need in the kitchen. It is lovely having Arran Aromatics handwashing and great to have cleaning and laundry things to hand. We played table tennis which was a bonus. Saw a red squirrel every morning too and fun to see the chickens wandering around.
Tips:Set in a quiet village not far from the beach at Blackwaterfoot. Lots of places to eat out but easy to pick up supplies and eat in. Great for golf as just nearby. Roads very quiet and easy drive from the ferry. If you have not been, it’s worth going to the Lagg Distillery or Lochranza Distillery. Lots of lovely beaches on both sides of the island.

Had a fantastic week at Hamilton Cottages. Superb location for exploring the Island. Set in lovely small village, overlooking fields and hillsides - beautiful spot. We stayed in Shurig cottage which was very clean, comfortable and tidy. All mod cons and then some, with coffee machine - with supplied pods, dishwasher and laundry services available.TV with access to your streaming services. A really cosy and comfortable sitting area. Bedrooms comfortable and well appointed. Whole cottage decorated to a very high standard. Easy commute to local shops in Blackwaterfoot or a little further to Brodick. Of the owners, only had the pleasure of meeting Matt, who was welcoming and friendly. Overall a cracking stay in a beautiful location. Thoroughly recommend to others.
Tips:No shop in village itself. Have to travel to nearby Blackwaterfoot or Brodick which is no hardship.

Just perfect and in such a lovely spot. We stayed in the Shurig which was immaculate, modern, homely, filled with everything you need with some extra goodies, Fiona and Matt left for us. Fiona dealt with us on arrival, she is lovely, so pleasant and accommodating. The main house is at the back of the cottages but they leave you too it unless you need them. Gardens are amazing, with benches and bbq. there’s woodland at the back of the cottages for walking the dog, the beach, hotel, deli and shop are just a 2 minute drive from cottage. Machrie moor and Kings Caves very near which was a bonus. Looking forward to booking again. Arlene and John

Really lovely cottage - had everything we needed, including lovely outdoor space. We even bought fresh eggs on-site from the chickens roaming around & we used the local milk vending machines too! There was room to store bikes & our bike rack. Excellent laundry & drying facility. Cottage was super clean & beautifully decorated. I would absolutely book again - but for longer next time!
Tips:If you love outdoors, there is SO much to do - there is a gorgeous walk from the cottage - have a look in the Walking on Arran book that is in the cottage - 6 miles through forests, with amazing views. The walk up Glen Rosa to The Saddle is also gorgeous - you can get up Goat Fell from there too (but not with a dog - some of the climbs up to North Goat Fell are too severe - I had to turn back with my dog). The walk up Goat Fell from Brodick Brewery is very well marked & you can get a dog up that route easily. Paddle-boarding in Brodick Bay was fabulous - I have my own board, but you can hire from the outdoors shop in Brodick. We had one rainy day during our week so we went to the Lochranza distillery - well worth a visit & the whiskey is super smooth.

The accommodation in Ashdale Cottage was really spacious and comfortable, a real home from home. It was spotlessly clean and well equipped. One of the best self catering properties we have stayed in. Tips:We enjoyed shopping in Blackwaterfoot, the bakers, butchers and general store all stocked with everything you might need. The bakers croissant and sour dough bread are delicious. Walking along the coast and Goatfell are great walks. Lochranza is worth a visit and from there the walk to Lagan and back over the top was a good day out. Shopping at Arran Aromatics, the cheese shop, the brewery, the leather shop and gallery all worth a visit.

Fiona and Matt were incredibly helpful, warm and friendly. Our stay in Arran was blessed with amazing weather, and we loved Shurig Cottage - my kids (11 and 14) used the games room pretty much every day. Amazing base for exploring Arran - we went walking in the mountains on five days of our stay, and had some great coastal walks and even a sunny afternoon cooking over a fire on the beach...
Tips:Kildonan Beach on a sunny day is amazing - we made a fire pit with driftwood and cooked lunch, and my brave friends went for a sea swim. If you go up Goatfell, try to avoid the main path and head up the valley from Corrie instead - it's quieter and you get to do a more interesting ridge walk, too. Fiona and Matt are super-helpful if you want any advice about walking or mountain biking on Arran. The Co-op in Brodick is quite expensive - it's worth doing a shop on the mainland (there's an Asda at Ardrossen) before you get the ferry over.

Shurig Cottage is one of three cottages available, this one suited our needs. Excellent personal welcome from the hosts, friendly and open. Just a great vibe the minute you arrive. Our cottage was warm and cosy, and exceptionally clean!! The smell from the trees in the garden just adds to the feeling of summer. We are less than 2 mins from the main road and it is buffered by mature trees and blackbirds singing so very little noise, a bonus if you hate traffic noises. Bees buzzing about the garden from the hives close by is wonderful. Sun just creeping through the trees at breakfast, and a seat outside to relax and paint whilst I enjoyed the birdsong. A very cheeky robin is very tame! We visited as I was recovering from cancer surgery and everything in this cottage allowed me to relax. This is possibly the best equipped cottage we have been to, with the most welcoming hosts. Dog on a lead at all times people please as the wildlife and farm animals were here before you if you visit. No washing machine in cottage as laundry pit stop on same property, which means another excuse to meander in the grounds. The artwork in the property is gorgeous too painted, all island areas by the host Fiona. Just a lovely lovely cottage and highly recommended.
Tips:Very central for walks, best beach on the island is less than 5 mins away, great longer more challenging walks also. Village 2 mins away has butcher, baker and a great hotel for lunch too!

Great spot - we had all 3 cottages as an extended family which worked really well. Kids enjoyed the garden and especially the proper ganmes room. Weather was really kind to us. Easy to get anywhere around the island from the cottages. With regards the cottages themselves we were all impressed by the cleanliness and the nice littel touches which you don't get elsewhere - soaps, dish cloths, spare toilet rolls etc, that you don't always find in other holiday homes. Nice touches made a difference! Everything worked and the small woodland area was great for dog strolls in the evening. Will highly recommend Hamilton Cottages and Arran as a whole.

Well appointed cottage with just about everything you need for a few days away. Apart from matches or a lighter for a candle, which is very picky, the things provided were great, including the welcome pack. As a dog owner, I found it a restriction to have to keep my dog on a lead the whole time, although I do understand that with hens around. My dog barked twice on Saturday morning to get back into the house and when I sent out to get him, the neighbouring guest came out and glared...perhaps none dog owners should be made aware that there will sometimes be dogs around during their stay.
Tips:Sunset down by the beach, 5 mins drive, amazing. Also walk along the beach and round the headland. Gin bar on Brodick beach, castle end, amazing. another lovely walk along the beach.

The location is good because the properties are central but you definitely need a car to get around. Disadvantage is that there is nothing local you can walk to (pub, shop, restaurants). Cleanliness can't be faulted. At the time we stayed (early March), we felt the main living area and kitchen areas were a bit colder than we would have liked. The games room was great (but also very cold/no heating).
Tips:Would recommend the Old Pier Cafe, Lamlash. Buy your bread from the Blackwaterfoot Bakehouse. Walks to the Kings Caves and up Glen Rose to waterfall.

Owner Response:Hi Wendy, thank you for you review and feedback. We're really sorry you felt that the living area was colder than you'd have liked. The heater goes up to about 29C and there is also a 2KW electric fan heater in the fireplace but we do have spare fan heaters in case of emergency that we could have happily offered if you had mentioned that you were finding it cold. Unfortunately as the games room is a large hall-like space it's just not economically possible with our current prices to have this room heated all the time however there is a fan heater in there you can turn on when using the room and we are looking at how we can invest in alternative heating sources that are less energy intensive.

absolutely fabulous stay! a great location and close enough to all main attractions. Cottage was so lovely and fully equipped with absolutely everything we could need. We absolutely loved the fresh eggs provided, and the homely feel about the place. The only thing I'd change is the showers, the strength was quite poor but apart from that, can't fault anything else.
Tips:I'd definitely recommend the cheese shop, the arran arromatics shop, the drift inn pub - the view is amazing and would be lovely to sit outside at in the summer and they Let dogs Inside the kinloch lounge was stunning and also let dogs inside the milk vending machine at blackwaterfoot is so cool the deep fried mars bar at the chippy at Brodick terminal was amazing

We had the most fabulous time staying in Shurig cottage. Literally from the moment we set foot in the door we were impressed and delighted at the standard of the accommodation, which was perfect for our two small children and ourselves. Lots of little Halloween touches kept our three year old busy while we unpacked, and restored us after we’d finished the hard work. The kitchen is compact but smartly laid out, the bedrooms lovely and comfy, and the outdoor space and games room wonderful-our baby monitors reached as far as the games rooms so my husband and I could ‘go out’ every night for a game of table tennis! We had major dramas with ferries and Matt and Fiona couldn’t have been kinder or more helpful. We are already planning a return visit.
Tips:Make sure you use the bottles provided to get hold of some Arran Dairy milk. It is likely the best milk you will ever have tasted. We waited until day 4 to find this out which was silly. Children’s clothes and shoes can be bought at the Byre on the west of the island in case of an emergency!

Very helpful! On hand if needed for advice or assistance. Only 1 thing to point out, the decking is a bit slippery when its wet; there's a product called Algon which kills the algae which may help
Tips:Maran in Corrie is good, Kinloch Hotel is handy and the bar is nice. Cafe Thyme near Machrie does very good pizzas and light snacks too. Camerons shop for essentials and tasty Arran milk, and the Arran butcher for good meat and sossies. Kings Caves from the woods car park or from Blackwaterfoot via the coast/golf club track is a good walk. Cycling is good on Arran but watch out for potholes (and whilst driving too) North and south loops or around the island

Fiona and Matt are extremely friendly and helpful hosts. The location is great too, with easy access to Blackwaterfoot and only 15 minutes from Brodick.
Tips:We would highly recommend dining at ‘Blackwaterfoot Lodge’ (Blackwaterfoot) and The Stag’s Pavilion (Lochranza) but book weeks in advance as they are so popular. Seal colony at Kildonan, King’s Cave, Machrie standing stones, Glenashdale Falls are just some of the least demanding walks on the island but certainly worth doing, especially if you have young children.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Hamilton Cottages. The location provided an excellent base to explore the island. The kitchen had everything we needed and we enjoyed meeting your chickens, the local red squirrel and the birds that visited the cottage garden. We had a relaxing week enjoying the diversity of Arran! Maureen and Nan
Tips:We enjoyed many walks - the literature in the cottage was extremely helpful in choosing these. Geln Ashdale, Glen Rosa, Sannox to LochRanza, Clauchlands Point and Drumadoon Point were among our favourites. A visit to the Machrie Stone Circles was informative and poignant as we realised what had gone on thousands of years before on the spot where we stood. It is useful to have a good map to plot your walks. The location could be a little remote for some but we found it a perfect base for exploring the Island. The cottage was clean and had everything that you would need for a great stay. Hosts were friendly and available if needed. We stayed in the Ashdale Cottage which was very spacious and would be perfect for families of 4+.
Tips:Look out for the resident owl heading out in the evenings! Cottage is a short drive from Blackwaterfoot which has an excellent bakery, butcher, small grocery shop, On-a-Roll sandwich takeaway and Restaurant/bar at the Kinloch Hotel. The Kinloch hotel also has a beer garden facing West for sunset drinks. Also a short drive from the Kings Cave circular walk and Machrie Standing stones. Tips:The Bakehouse at Blackwaterfoot is an absolute treat - artisan sourdough bread, cinnamon twists, almond croissant - get there for 11, when it's gone that's it for the day! Kilmory beach is well worth a visit, just off the beaten track but easily accessed.
