3rd December 2019:

Apart from the lack of towels initially we had a lovely stay

Tips:

Breakfast was excellent and although not many evening eateries in Whiting Bay in the evening Lamlash bay hotel was great and the Wineport in Brodick fabulous lunch. We also went to the new Lagg distillery which was good for lunch too

29th November 2019:

We missed a choice of fruit, muesli, porridge or unflavoured yoghurt at breakfast. Corn Flakes or Frosties are an unhealthy, unappetising option. However, the hot breakfast was delicious and fresh. A biscuit in the room would also have been nice!

Tips:

November: Everything in Whiting Bay was shut for the winter, unfortunately.

The Burlington was perfect for our needs all I would say is that another sachet of shower wash would have been handy as my brother hogged most of it! The breakfasts are excellent & Liz and Duncan very friendly & professional. Parking is available right outside the hotel with some space at the back. I would without doubt stay again and will recommend the Burlington without hesitation.

I stayed with my dog who made himself right at home , for me it was perfect , travel for the the summit of Goatfell and seals , found and loved both , Ian checked I was ok & left me to it, couldn’t have found at such short notice a nicer spot ,lucky to get a sea view too , would recommend , a relaxing stay , thank you

Tips:

When you get off the ferry , Brodick , grab any things , ,food etc from The co-op you may need for munchies before you go to this b&b , save you driving if after 5pm basically back to the deeey , as I had to go back for supper , just a top tip , great man in a chip van though on a Thursday eve

What a lovely relaxing place, everything was great including a good breakfast only negative was the shower had next to no pressure, not sure if it was because we were on the very top floor ie attic or just bad timing and everyone was using their shower. We were only there one night I'm sure if we had asked they would have let us shower else where so it won't put us off I'm sure we'll go back, I'd definitely recommend this place for a stay in Arran

friendly and helpful staff. good views from sea facing windows. comfortable bed and spacious room. views from Dining Room great. Breakfast good. outdoor seating sea view. early 20C building decorated to maintain character.

Tips:

Eden Lodge (Felicities) excellent food and service - best to book (not open Tuesdays) 10 minute walk. Pierhead Tavern (10 minute drive) also very good - can be crowded but they fit you in - dog friendly. good walks along beach and sea front and into the hills. new Distillery at Laggs worth visiting - plenty of enthusiastic ideas and 50% discount if visit Arran Distillery at Locranza also (show your receipt). Try the Arran Gold icecream (we got the ice cream passport - didn't manage to fill it for the free icecream reward but fun trying). lots of walks - there are books available at the Tourist Information office in Brodick with directions and difficulty rated - bear in mind a 4 mile walk is 4 miles each way (even when a circular walk).

We were in room 10 which was a beautiful big room with fantastic beach views. The only thing we felt missing was a full length mirror, this could go on the wall next to the bathroom and opposite dressing table allowing you to use both mirrors to check your outfit. Bed was comfy but the size of the room could fit a king size which is our preference however it wouldn't stop us staying again.

The Burlington is situated right on the se front with superb, unrestricted views within easy walk of the main part of the village. We actually only met one member of staff who was very friendly and very helpful. Our room (room 10) with en suite bathroom was warm, clean and very comfortable. Our breakfast in the morning was tasty, well presented and filling. We only had time to stay one night. Will definitely be back though.

Good welcome, friendly management and staff, excellent room with lovely sea views. Very welcoming to my dog, on her second visit. Cooked breakfast to order was excellent.

Tips:

highly recommend the evening meals served at the Burlington, Almost certainly better than the very few restaurants in the area. Pleasant dining room with good sea view just accross the road. Parking is easy.

Very clean and extremely comfy room! Staff were so so friendly and very attentive. Breakfast was terrific. Only Edmar problem was the shower not changing temperature which meant it was always very warm.

Tips:

Felicitys restaurant is just a long the village and is brilliant. It does a burger and quiz night on a Wednesday which we went too and it was fab. Also the shurig serves drink and is just below felicitys. The local walks to glenashdale falls and the giants graves are terrific and I would highly recommend going to see them

It was a lovely stay and the staff did everything they could to make it enjoyable and relaxing. The room itself was lovely and tranquil, just what we needed after our long hike on Goatfell (we’re quite unfit) nothing was too much trouble. Breakfast was delicious and prepared us for a second day of adventure. We’ll stay here next time we’re on Arran, definitely.

Tips:

If you’re going to need a taxi on Arran it’s adviseable to book it in advance. There’s a nice Chinese restaurant in Brodick which delivers to the guest house if you miss the restaurant times (we did due to not having a taxi booked)

The Burlington Guest House was a last minute booking due to our ferry being cancelled...and we were very impressed with our choice; The room was clean and spacious and filled with everything we needed. The staff were welcoming and helpful. The breakfast was delicious. The location was beautiful, Whiting Bay is quite picturesque and our room had a great view.

Tips:

The Burlington Guest House comes well equipped with a restaurant and bar - although did not use these. In Whiting Bay, we did eat at two other restaurants which had previously been recommended to us; Coast on one evening when we’d been staying in and came from Lamlash (the bus service on Arran is great when you time it right) and Felicity’s the night we stayed at the Burlington. It’s about a 15min walk, but the path follows the shoreline. You could get the bus and the local drivers would drop you at the door.

The room was lovely, warm, clean, and very comfy. Breakfast was similarly excellent - very tasty and filling! Our only disappointment (apart from the weather) was the shower in our bathroom. It had very low pressure, and the temperature didn't go as high as we would have ideally liked. Overall a lovely place to stay!

Tips:

Whiting Bay was lovely, although very quiet (we went in early January, so to be expected). When it was open, Felicity's was lovely for food and drinks. Lamlash up the road (easily accessible by bus or bike, if you were travelling without a car, like us) had some lovely pubs. The Drift Inn's food was excellent. We also really enjoyed the Old Pier Cafe for lunch, which had a great selection of GF food (one of our party is coeliac).

Tips:

It all depends on the kind of things you like to do. If you are the outdoor walking active type then Whiting Bay is fine. Otherwise there is very little to do. A nice pub/restaurant called Coast not too far away and a pub with music in Lamlash. Having travelled around the island we were sad to find that prices for everything were high end eg £7.50 for a chippy fish supper. On a positive note, the island is beautiful in all seasons and especially at this time of year and even in the wake of hurricane Ophelia !

The Burlington is a really friendly, value for money guest house. The staff were extremely helpful, the rooms were comfy and spacious, and the food was just right. We'll be back!!

Tips:

Whiting Bay is a gorgeous spot on the lovely Isle of Arran. We were delighted to see plenty of wild birds (including the sea-going swans) and red squirrels too. In the village there are four coffee shops, a post office, a chemist, a pub and two 'village stores'. We thoroughly enjoyed meals at Felicity's in Whiting Bay, and at the Lagg Hotel, which is a few (spectacular) miles round the coast. The seals at Kildonan Point are great to watch. The Torylinn creamery is close by - where you can watch Arran cheese being made (and buy some!)

Staff very friendly and helpful; Offering advice on places of interest around the island; making contact with ferry services on our behalf; carried out their duties in an intrusive, efficient manner to ensure customer comfort.

Tips:

Visit the Standing Stones on Machrie Moor - pre-date Stonehenge. Wear good walking boots, can be very boggy! Visit Brodick Castle a must when touring round Arran. Tour round the island visit lovely villages especially Corrie to see the Viking ship and visit Marvin the Woodcarver. Road surfaces on the main are very good though can be challenging at times with many twist and turns but worth it for the views and picturesque villages. Ample good places to eat round the island.

Staff that we met were nice especially Jackie and Nicky who were more than helpful and lovely manners towards my daughter which made her feel included. The food was good amd fresh. Can tell alot of work is going into the upkeep of the Burlington. Only thing I would suggest is room freshners as the room we were im was above the kitchen and constantly smelled of food! We would definitely revisit though.

Lovely guest house right on Whiting Bay in Arran. The room was clean, we had a great view of Holy Island, the bed was comfy, brand new tv. The shower unit created surprising showers (!) and the hot water misbehaved one morning but was fixed. We loved the staff and the food was excellent. It was nice to have teal scrambled eggs for breakfast. Our weather was perfect nut had it broken -- as it did the day we left -- a lounge and games table would have been welcome.

We had a very enjoyable stay at the Burlington. It was a good sized room with large ensuite facilities which included a bath and shower. Clean and fresh, plenty of power sockets, mirrors with tea and coffee available in the room too. Lovely welcome on arrival. Great breakfast - pre-order provided for following morning which was great, so it was all ready for us coming down. We would definitely stay here again, would like to try a sea view if available next time. Very, very quiet and great night's sleep with comfortable bed! We wanted to do a couple of walks and the owner was very informative and gave us excellent recommendations!

Tips:

The Giant's Graves & Glenashdale Falls, Whiting Bay; and the King's Caves, Blackwaterfoot definitely worth a visit. They were all great walks. The weather was fantastic so the walk to the King's Caves and the views provided were spectacular. It said 2hrs 30 mins but we were a bit short of time and managed to walk to it there and back and have a good look inside the caves in 1hr 30 mins.

I understand that your establishment is still work in progress, when completed you will have an amazing place. If you are up scaling furniture make sure that it is done correctly as repainted pine furniture in room 6 is done very badly, there was also holes in the wall in the bathroom where something had been removed, would be a good idea get that fixed. We found the property very clean, the young lady running the venue was excellent and very pleasant. If I am being picky the bed linen could do with being updated in keeping with the interior you are trying to achieve. When this property h as been finished you will be able to charge far in excess of your £80 per night room charge. Good luck

The family room was lovely and had a briliant view. Staff were friendly and helpful. But a coupe of wee things Id note, only to help. Toels were not dry when we arrived. we exchanged them for slightly drier ones. We had dinner which was ok except for the very burnt and completely inedible piece of what was meant to have been garlic bread and the limp piece of rocket salad that was under it (which came with the lasagne), and a wee bit confusion about when the early bird dinner price ended. we came at 5.30, got served at 5.45 and were initially told that the early bird menu (5-6pm) was finished. But anyway were were offered it and the early bird price so that was ok. Overall yes Id reccomend and be back. Thanks

Everything about this lovely B&B was good, as rated above. The food was exceptional - Mark knows how to cook ! Cannot say much more, except to recommend Burlington in the highest possible terms. Thanks for a lovely stay. Unfortunately, the rest of the holiday was disastrous because of the weather on the mainland. Should have stayed on Arran.

Tips:

Don't bother looking for alternative places to eat in the evening - the food was outstanding (so we cancelled a booking elsewhere and ate at the B&B for a second night. Arran is lovely - no crime, people very friendly, and no litter - didn't see as much as a sweet wrapper or dog end. Good scenic walks (better when you can see the scenery), and if you want Brownie Points, gentlemen, take your partner to Arran Aromatics.

Excellent facilities and very helpful staff. Ideal for a quiet relaxing break. I would highly recommend the food at the Burlington Guest house, particularly the garlic prawns (Starter) and homemade pizza's. Liz and the staff were very welcoming and there knowledge of the Isle and things to do was fantastic.

Tips:

One thing we found that was great value for money was the £5.60 day pass for the buses. You can stop at each town and the bus will pick you up roughly an hour and 20 minutes later.. just enough time to explore and have a wee drink. The Kildonan Hotel is a great place to have afternoon tea and view the Seals. The Whiskey tour and tasting is a must and at only £20 per person is great value for money. For a lively night, try the Fiddler in Brodick. It has live music from 8:30 every night.

Nice clean and tidy property. Work in progress on the bar/sitting area which was closed during stay but dining area available to sit in with views. Was given a lovely clean freshly decorated room. Breakfast consisted of cereals, juices, tea coffee etc on a help yourself basis. The cooked breakfast (was ordered the night before) arrived served up hot tasty and freshly cooked.

Tips:

Out of main town so maybe a long walk to shops/community.But in a lovely area for beach walking, pavement along beach if needed, and views. Street parking right outside. Another bar restaurant 10 mins walk (turn right) away.I found it a peaceful and clean area. Thats why the excellent rating.

Friendly, helpful and relaxed staff made our short stay lovely. The room decor was a bit slap dash, dated. The Burlington as a whole is being decorated section by section but I'm not sure whether or not our room had yet been reached. Problematic shower was disappointing especially after being out walking during the day - either extremely freezing or unbearably hot or when changed to a diff setting, water merely trickling out. Very comfortable bed, tasty, filling and varied breakfast choice plus mesmerising sea view overtook any minor drawbacks of the place. Would happily return & will recommend to others.

COACH offered fab food and interesting live music. Check out the list on Trip Advisor, we found their top 5 to be spot on.

Nice beachfront location. Arrived at the start of the season and hotel was still being refurbished, so wet paint and builders around. Very clean room (just 're-painted and new fittings), bathroom brand new etc.Restaurant not open yet, breakfast was substantial and well cooked.

Tips:

Arran is a favourite of ours, and local too.Drive or walking, it's all good. Great views, walks, wildlife, beaches etc. Come over with a full tank of petrol as gas is expensive and gas stations few.

Liz and Ian have recently taken over this B&B and are currently upgrading the property. Our room had been upgraded and had a fabulous view out to sea. Liz and Ian are both very friendly and made us welcome and comfortable. Our Scottish breakfasts set us up for the day with only a snack needed at lunchtime. Extremely good value and we shall return.

Tips:

We were in room 10. Fabulous food at Glenisle Hotel, Felicities and The Wineport at Brodick for lunch. We enjoyed a leisurely drive across the "Ross" road, bought chesse to feed an army at the Cheese Shop, which is just next door to Arran Aromatics (again at Brodick), leading to the beautiful village of Lochranza, where the Arran Disillery can be found. Whilst unfortunately closed for the winter season, the Stags Pavilion, Lochranza, serves fabulous food in a relaxed and wonderful atmosphere and should be booked to avoid disappointment. We have only scratched the surface and will return ready to head out with our walking boots

Really nice welcoming guesthouse! Met Ian when we checked in and he was very kind and helpful. Our room was facing the beach view to see gorgeous sunrise in the morning. Full breakfast was nice and warm. Comfy bed and bathroom. Couldn't recommend enough!

Tips:

Taking a road around the island won't take you so long. However, there are many stunning viewpoints especially coastal road. You can get so close to the animals on the beach. A walk up to the Glenashdale falls was lovely! In terms of food, there are not so many options on the islands (or it's just me) If you like something Scottish you can find quite a few pubs or bars but they are not opened till late. We tried the Indian takeaway which offered a decent portion of delicious food.

Very welcoming and friendly. Nothing was a bother. We were very comfortable and breakfasts were plentiful and delicious! Extremely helpful and nice atmosphere in guest house. View from window was relaxing ~ able to watch the activity on the River Clyde ~ even saw a submarine and some cruise ships! We loved to sit on the window seat in the bedroom and just chill-out! Hopefully, we'll go back again.

Tips:

Perfect location and only a short walk into Whiting Bay. We were fortunate that the weather was lovely, sunny and warm! Although we had a car, we walked a lot, both on the main road and on the nature walks. Especially enjoyed the waterfall walk ~ scenery is stunning. Because Arran is a relatively small island, we toured around it in the car and stopped off at special places, like the Whisky Distillery, Arran Cheese and lots of quite spots with beautiful scenic views. Lovely!

I should have said something before I left about this but I didn't.

Tips:

Lamlash Bay Hotel and The Drift Inn were good for evening meals. The steaks were excellent at both though the lamb at the Lamlash Bay Hotel was too pink and fatty for my taste. The walk up to the Glenashdale Waterfall was beautiful. Also the sunrise was fabulous if you're up early enough!

5th October 2015:

A very nice place to stay, very friendly and helpful staff, good food, location is right on the seafront and there is a nice front garden where you can sit on a good day. Rooms are nicely furnished and very clean, I would definitely recommend this guest house, and I will stay there again next time I visit Arran.

Tips:

Good walk nearby up to Glenashdale Falls and the Giants' Graves, and it is not far to Brodick and the more mountainous north of the island, so Whitiing Bay is a good location.

Guest house decor is very tired looking. But the rooms are clean and the food was amazing. The guest house should advertise more about serving evening food.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and I enjoyed the meal in the restaurant. Absolutely no complaint of the standard of the meal but my husband would have been pleased with choice of plainer fayre. My preference was for what was on the menu.

Tips:

Enjoyed the walk recommended by the manager (waterfall walk) and in hindsight I would have liked to be at the accommodation for 2 - 3 nights given the high standard.

17th August 2015:

I did not actually stay at the hotel, having made a mistake in the booking date, but I did stay very close by and visited the hotel during my stay. Scores are based on seeing round the ground floor of the hotel and the owner's handling my misbooking (which was for a larger party) in a kindly way.

Tips:

Whiting Bay was great for the 5 boys (8-13) in our party - the beach is sandy at one end and at this end there is a play area with a football pitch/ nets. Access to the beach is best (gentle) from the path at the far end of the football pitch. Across the road from the Burlington there is access to the left of the green area (but too steep for the 80 year olds in our party) and watch out for the c 2 metre drops in places from this green area to the beach. The children loved Auchrannie for the swimming pool, the visit to Holy Isle, the paly area at the castle, the pony trekking at Lochranza and the Sea Breezes motor boat, but most of the time they were happy on the beach and the football pitch.

Lovely guest house in a great location. The view is stunning and the staff very friendly. Dinner at night was excellent with a good choice on the menu ( I had a little dog with me so I was able to eat in the bar and take him with me, which was a bonus. ) I would stay here again.

Tips:

The guest house is at the Sanbraes end of Whiting Bay across the road from the beach. There is a shop nearby which sells everything and serves coffee ,cake etc. Park and bus stop is nearby.

31st July 2015:

Friendly newly run b&b (from what we heard from many island residents) by a new landlord who is doing a great job in our opinion on opening the bar, the beautiful restaurant and keeping this gem of a b&b going. We stayed in the top-most seafront room and the wee window seat overlooking the ocean about 10 metres away across the road was the best part of our visit. We will definitely be back.

Tips:

Seafront room is a must. Trafalgar restaurant three doors down is fantastic food wise and a blast from the early 80s (I am 31 so don't take that as a bad thing, rather amazing food in a sort of comedy environs)

The place was very homely and extremely clean and tidy no matter what time of day or night. Breakfast room was cosy too, and exactly what you imagine on Arran. Food nice.

Tips:

Go to Lamlash which is only a 5 minute drive and see the stunning views of the Holy Isle. Also, a 10 minute walk away from the hotel is the Giant's Graves hike and Glenashdale Falls and trail- worth a visit.

Very friendly staff and cleaned every morning, breakfast was superb each day, never ate in as I didn't like anything on menu but chef was great and can make something of needed.

Tips:

Plenty to do me and my partner climbed goatfell and did a lot of the other walking roots, only thing I'd say was don't order a Chinese from Brodick as it took 2 hours to get there and was cold on arrival.

Very comfortable guest house with wonderful (and generous portions of) food. Great location and the staff were fabulous, very friendly and couldn't do enough to help. Would definitely go there again and happily recommend it to anyone who wants to stay in a quieter part of Arran.

A full Scottish breakfast is included a printed list of items would help diners choice. The Chef Duncan prepares very good evening meals and the Skewers and the Chicken dishes we found to be very nice You have to book for dinner in the morning and perhaps promoting the evening meal would help numbers.

Tips:

Local restaurants. The Trafalgar Three doors along but you must book. Great Food. For light lunches and coffees teas etc. Try the Coffee Pot at the end of the main road. or Coast. In Lamlash we were told the Drift Inn has a good reputation. We tried the Glenisle for dinner and were not impressed.
