This was our second time staying at Lamlash hotel. It is well worth a visit. We stayed in room 11 on this occasion and had the most fantastic view of Holy Isle and Lamlash Xmas tree! This hotel is perfect for a relaxing break when exploring the island and the most wonderful scenery.

2nd December 2019:

Lovely stay, room was beautiful and had everything we needed, we loved the gorgeous sea view. Excellent dinner and we enjoyed a few drinks in the bar. Breakfast was a little disappointing, felt like cheap ingredients, my veggie sausages were a bit sad looking! It was perfectly edible but nowhere near the standard of the food we got at dinner. Overall good value and we will definitely return.

Fabulous hotel, right on the shore front with amazing views across the bay to Holy Isle. Staff are all lovely and the food in the restaurant was outstanding, both at breakfast and dinner. Well stocked bar with plenty of comfy chairs and a great atmosphere. Very reasonably priced accommodation which is clean and well furnished - comfy beds and modern bathrooms. Smart TVs in the bedrooms and excellent guest Wi-Fi. It's an older building and the attic rooms are affected by steeply sloping ceilings. These don't pose too much of a problem - just be aware if you're a taller traveller!

Tips:

Get a front facing room if you can - you won't be disappointed!

Dear Guest, Thank you for your review. We are a small hotel and cannot have a dedicated member of staff just sitting in the reception 24 hours a day. As I recall you just walked in on the chance of getting a room and we were able to accommodate; but again the reception desk per se was not manned at the time you arrived so we hope you were happy that we could check you in in the short few minutes that we did...

Great stay overall. A couple of points I would highlight :- 1. it felt sometimes that bar staff were "doing us a favour" in accommodating food orders when, according to them, the kitchen was busy and "it might cause chaos with the chef". This didn't come across well at all, particularly given that we were residents of the hotel for several days and spent substantial amounts on dinner and drinks with you. 2. you need to offer more than a single measly sausage with the breakfast options! Surely there must be good locally-sourced sausages that you could showcase?

Owner Response:

Dear guest, Thank you for your comments and I thought I would respond to your points. We are a very small team, and it is extremely challenging to find staff on Arran. As such we know what service we can offer well and where we will struggle. This is why we repeatedly inform our guests that they absolutely need to book if they wish to dine with us as we get very busy. When people do not book we will struggle to fit them in and herein lies the problem when the bookings are not made... Obviously for our guests we will do everything to fit them in but please understand that this disrupts the whole other bookings and timings that were already there. As for breakfast, we do not limit to one portion but our guests can ask for as many items as they want; so all you need to do is ask for another sausage on your next visit. We are pleased that you overall experience was good and would hope to have you again stay with us.

Whilst the service was good a couple of staff members were not always pleasant. This was also commented on by other residents. There was, however, a staff member with a long ponytail who was serving in the bar both nights of our stay who was very friendly and most helpful. Glasses in the room rather than plastic cups would be appropriate given the current situation regarding plastic. The shower was rather temperamental and I had very hot water followed by freezing cold. Overall, a good stay but the best thing was the view

We only booked last minute, so got the very small double room. However for a one night stay it was good value with modern fixtures and the view was amazing. The hotel has a lovely location on the island. Breakfast was excellent as were the staff, and we really enjoyed the seabass for our evening meal. The barman also was very entertaining.

Tips:

We only had 23 hours on the island but managed to have an amazing ride around all of it. We certainly want to come back to walk in the forests, climb Goat Fell and look at all the art and craft shops. Corrie Bay is excellent for seal watching. Brodick Castle is worth a visit ( we only had time to enjoy a walk around the interesting gardens and woodland). The Lochranza Distillery is a must and is where we caught the ferry to Kintyre. The walk to Machrie Moor to see the standing stones, burial mounds and stone circles is well worth the walk on the west of the island. That is all we had time for on this small island of contrasting bare mountains and green wooded hills .until we return.

A very welcoming but small hotel in a beautiful location. The service could not be faulted and the room itself was spacious and very clean. We were fortunate to book the last available room which was the suite overlooking the shore. This suite was very nice if a tad pricy. The facilities were limited, bar and restaurant but they were more than sufficient for our needs. The food served was excellent. We would certainly return.

Tips:

Arran is the kind of destination where visitors have to make their own entertainment. They need to travel around and find restaurants and cafes they like and if possible see as much of the island as they can. There are many, many walks available and lots of choices to eat. There is so much information available, Google and Information Bureau, that the visitor cannot go wrong.

Great location close to small beach with views across to Holy Island. Ferry to island close to hotel and easy parking outside. Friendly welcome on arrival and room ready. We travelled with our small dog and hotel has a good policy for them. We ate our breakfast in the bar with the dog. Breakfast choice was good and food tasty. Our rear facing top floor room was good value and still had a view of the hills behind hotel. Two flights of stairs to negotiate to reach room. Overall an excellent choice for visiting the wonderful island of Arran

Tips:

Crafters bar in Brodick serves great food and has live music. Suggest you book though. The Scottish tapas menu at Eighteen 69 also in Brodick was also excellent and every dish we had was very well prepared and tasty

I would have given full marks but the front outside seating area was a bit ...dirty . Ash trays left full , litter on the ground and table and chairs out-dated . It wasn’t very attractive as you arrive . Also a small bike shelter would be a good idea . We arrived by bike and had to leave them around the back in the open air ( whilst they were safe, they were not protected by the weather.) Apart from that your hotel is a great place to stay !

Menu- whilst food good I feel restaurant food was somewhat limited. Suggest introduce a salad, this is recommended for good / improved health. A cold main course option would be a positive move Specials were the same each night- should be varied and exciting. Your chef should be happy with the challenge and diners welcome the initiative. Do local boats land shellfish or salmon ? Management are to be applauded for having great staff and reinvesting in the business. We shall return.

Visit Lagg Distillery Cafe on corner of road leading to the jetty - excellent and worthy of a visit. Excellent selection of home baking.

Owner Response:

Dear Guests, Thank you for your feedback and constructive criticism. Living on an island comes with a unique set of circumstances including delivery and storage. So for a small kitchen like hours and a 38 seat restaurant the menu has to reflect what is possible. Lamlash Bay is a "No take zone" and Seafood for commercial purposes should have a paper trail including records of what temperature and method it has been transported at etc.We do have Haddock, Seabass and King Prawns on the menu as well as other fish on the specials from time to time. We do have a Goat's Cheese Salad on our main menu under the mains course and I'm not sure if you didn't see this? I agree that Specials should be changed regularly to keep things interesting. We recently changed our menu and are currently using up ingredients for dishes that were on the old menu which is why they appear to be on all the time. We are glad to hear though you would happily return and thanks again for taking the time to leave a review.

Nice basic pub in great location. Staff awesome but rooms fairly basic. The curtains had no lining so the room was bright at around 4am and the towels threadbare. Owner Response:

Dear Guest, We are pleased to hear that you enjoyed the service and location but sorry that you found the room to be too bright. The weather has been exceptionally glorious and this room faces the sunrise so yes, it would be bright early. We do take on board customers feedback though and are currently sourcing new curtains. Since taking over the hotel 4 years ago we have worked continuously to upgrade and improve the facilities here. This Room, room 3 was the last room to be upgraded by the previous owners so other rooms and areas have taken priority. Thank you again for leaving a review and for staying with us.

I thought the hotel was excellent with a superb breakfast and a great choice of evening meals whilst not being overly priced. My single room was much bigger than expected with plenty of storage space. My only criticism, and that is personal to me, is I found the bed a bit too soft; a firmer mattress might have given me a better sleep.

Tips:

I looked at other places to eat in Lamlash but none were as good in terms of selection or price than the hotel. The hotel restaurant does get busy but, travelling alone, I found it no problem getting a table. Highly recommend the walk to Glenashdale Falls a few miles south and the hike up Goat Fell for magnificent views of the island. I had my golf clubs with me and highly recommend Shiskine, a 12 hole course with some very interesting holes and breathtaking views out to sea.

Great stay! We enjoyed the room, breakfast, and our dinner. Thank you!

Tips:

We also enjoyed having drinks and fish and chips on the rooftop at Pierhead Tavern. Loved seeing the Machrie Moor standing stones, hiked up to Giants' Graves - nice view, went to King's Caves, saw the Lochranza castle ruins, and dinner at Crofter's in Brodick on night when local musician was playing. Wonderful place to visit!

The hotel is clean and comfortable in a great location. Staff are friendly and helpful. Bar and restaurant at the hotel are both great.

Tips:

The hotel food is fabulous but if you need to eat elsewhere you have options within Lamlash and if you have transport in Whiting Bay and Brodick. Lamlash is a perfect location for exploring the entire island.

Staff very friendly and welcoming, stunning view from the balcony. This is a lovely hotel and I would definitely stay here again. My only criticism and it a very small one is to maybe put a better brand of coffee or a mixture of brands of coffee in the rooms. I still give the hotel 5 out of 5

Room 9 was a bit small for a double but as I was on my own that was ok. The ensuite bathroom was a bit cramped with only one small shaving mirror about 6 inches diameter but again for 1 person it was ok. The room was spotless and the view was spectacular. The bed was particularly comfortable and the bed linen felt very expensive and good quality, so much so I even found myself looking for a label to check out who made it. Breakfast was excellent and served quickly. The staff were very pleasant and welcoming. The only negative I can think of is the price. At £93 for one midweek night for one person it did seem a bit expensive but this seems to be a common theme on Arran.

First time we have stayed on Arran and at Lamlash. We will definitely be back next year. Accommodation we could not fault, we were in room 10 overlooking the loch - the view was amazing. The food here is to die for especially the Sea bass on crushed potato with garlic and prawns - beautiful. The staff are really helpful and friendly and we felt right at home whilst having a drink in the little bar. Will definitely be back next year.

Tips:

The Drift Inn is a must. The food is beautiful, very tasty, lovely atmosphere - and it has a huge log fire. Places we visited and loved was Kings Caves - took us about 2 hours to do the full walk, the scenery whilst doing this walk is amazing. We did do a couple of walking through the Glens as well which we loved.

Whilst we enjoyed our stay there were some aspects of the room that we felt really let you down. 1) Room 2 was too cold and attempts to increasing the heating had no effect. 2) The duvet on the single bed is far too thin for this time of year especially given point 1. 3) The shower is totally unacceptable in a room costing nearly £100per night. If the water pressure can’t be increased then a good quality power shower is required.

Dear Guests, We hate to think that you suffered the cold the night you stayed with us. After you left we discovered the radiator valve had been turned off ( not from the dial). We are so sorry and would have gladly fixed it, provided extra duvets, plug in radiators that we keep for emergencies etc if you had notified us of the problem. Your feedback is important and on changing the shower head, the flow and pressure were back to normal. We are glad that otherwise you enjoyed your stay and only wish we had been given the opportunity to rectify issue for you. Once again, apologies for this.

We enjoyed our stay so much! Everything was perfect! Only not so positive thing is that dogs cannot stay alone in the room (so we couldn’t bring ours, because we had a distillery tour booked). I find it understandable to be honest, but it just means that I cannot come back to your hotel if I want to bring my dog with me and book some indoor activity where dogs are not allowed. A pity, because I really loved the stay!

Tips:

We really loved the Arran Distillery tour and tasting. Also the king’s cave walk was amazing with the sun out!

Owner Response:

Dear Guest, Thank you for your glowing review, we are so pleased you enjoyed your stay. I am sorry that our pet policy doesn’t fit with your needs whilst holidaying in Arran. Even the most chilled dogs can whine , bark and scratch when left alone in completely new surroundings. We once had the best dog in the world ( according to its owner) jump on a leather sofa when left alone and it’s claws punctured one of the seats. The whole sofa had to be replaced ( and ordered from the mainland). The room had to be discounted until the new sofa arrived. We therefore can’t take any risks. I’ve been trying to think of solutions, sometimes owners leave their dogs in their cars whilst dinning or visiting attractions. ( Weather permitting). There are also some excellent dog walkers in Arran and I’d be happy to help you arrange that if it’s a suitable option. Once again thank you for your review and we do hope to see you again.

Lovely food, lovely atmosphere and the facilities were top standard, the location was good as well with a glorious view of the Holy Isle. Staff were extremely helpful and friendly with a warming welcome. Would stay again.

Dear Guests, thank you for your lovely comments and it was a pleasure to have you stay. The best ( and cheapest) way to control your booking is by booking direct with the hotel. We are not able to personalise on booking.com so it appears the only option is to inform us in the comments/ additional information box if using them. When you hover over the "pet friendly" sign it says charges may apply at the hotel. I'm sorry that they are not clearer and I am currently following this up with them. Thanks again and we hope to see you in the future.

My wife and I had a wonderful stay in the Lamlash Bay Hotel’s new no. 11 suite. The room was spacious, warm, inviting and had spectacular views overlooking the bay and Holy Isle. We decided to dine in the restaurant and would recommend the food and friendly service in both restraurant and bar. Breakfast was also delicious and plentiful.

Tips:

Buses to Brodick and Whiting Bay provide some variety and are a cheap way to see the island (though infrequent so always check timetables). Plenty of beautiful walks nearby. We had coffee in the Pierhead Tavern, just along the road, prior to checking into the Lamlash Bay Hotel. The Parlour is a good, newly opened cafe/ice-cream shop in Brodick, where we ate whilst awaiting the ferry home.

Third time staying here and will definitely return. Stunning location, great staff. The only downside was a large crowd of guests who took the place over and were very noisy. However this is no fault of the hotel staff, who were very apologetic. Food was amazing as usual. We had room 1 which had a balcony overlooking the Holy Isle. All in all a great hotel with a personal touch. Thankyou to all.

Excellent place to stay, very friendly and helpful staff. Breakfast was lovey and included vegetarian option and evening meal was superb. Great room with everything we needed and lovely and warm. Fab views from hotel and Lamlash is Great base to tour the island from. We also loved the fact that this hotel is dog friendly (whilst being respectful of residents without dogs) so nice to let us have breakfast in the bar so our dog could stay with us, perfect! We will definitely stay here again!

Tips:

We also ate one night at the Pier Head Tavern which was lovely food and great atmosphere. Also dog friendly which is great. Lots of good info available at the hotel to help decide what to do each day, great walks and loads to see!

Although it’s a bold claim, as the first two humans to inhabit Room 11, I must draw comparison to the great mountaineers, Hilary & Tenzing, as they stood atop Mount Everest... amazed by their achievement and certain in the knowledge that the World was waiting to hear their story. As the onus is on me to review our stay at Lamlash Bay Hotel, I shall say this. It’s perfect in every way. Friendly staff, delicious food, a wonderful room and exactly what the Everest pioneers saw. A beautiful view.

Unfortunately, we only stayed for one night on our way to Skye so we can’t comment on things to do on Arran.

Dear Guests, Thank you for your review and I'm sorry to hear you had issues with your radiators. In a few days we are closing for works which include replacing some of the older radiators, installing heated towel rails in some bathrooms which currently don't have them and also a full servicing of the boilers. This should rectify any problems and set us up for a cosy winter. We do hope you will come back again soon.

Dear Guests, We appreciate all feedback and the time taken to write your review. We are sorry you didn't feel the room was good value. We do try to inform guests that it is cheaper to book direct as the booking channels all charge such high commission. I'm afraid that there has been some poor communication here and for that I am sorry. Dogs are not allowed to be left alone in the hotel room. When housekeeping went in to clean they saw a large dog alone in the room and this is why your room was not cleaned. Thank you for staying with us

1 night's stay - Fire alarms disturbed us at 9pm/10pm going off 4 times then 2 more times at 4am. We were also woken abruptly by a drunken guest banging on our bedroom door at 00:30am. Spoilt the 2nd day of our honeymoon and made for a very tired next day travelling.

Owner Response:

Dear Guests, We are so sorry for the disturbances you experienced during your stay. It is reassuring that the fire panel and alarm sounders work well, however a false alarm like this going off several times in the one night is every hoteliers dreaded nightmare. The following day the smoke detectors were taken down and cleaned as something so small as specks of dust can set them off. There have been no subsequent false alarms since. It is very unfortunate that you also had your sleep disturbed by another guest and we are really sorry to hear this. We would love to have you return and allow us the chance to experience a normal night at The Bay.

The hotel was immaculate, staff were very attentive and friendly. We will definitely be planning another visit real soon. We had breakfast both mornings which was lovely and lots of options too, we also had dinner one night as we were too late booking on our arrival for dinner the 1st night, booking for dinner is an absolute must, as lots of local people book here, which says it all really, dinner was beautiful, portions were very generous too. Our stay was spot on with no problems.

Tips:

I would recommend Lamlash Bay Hotel to anyone looking to visit Arran for a nice time. We had a sea view room, which was awesome, got lovely photos of the sunrise over The Holy Isle. It’s also very central with free parking on the street and only 3 miles away from the ferry port. There’s lots of stuff to do on the island for everyone. We visited The Heritage Museum, well worth a visit, loads to see and do, great for walkers, cyclists, golfers, the list goes on! Also there’s Arran aromatics, cheese factory, we drove slowly round the whole island, stopping at different spots, it’s a beautiful Island with lots to do, I could write a book here, but, to anyone who hasnt visited, get yourself over, you won’t be disappointed!

As dog owners, we only use hotels where our dog is allowed to be with us at breakfast and dinner. Lamlash Bay Hotel is perfect allowing us to eat in the bar area with our Sid. All the staff were excellent and the food was very good.

Tips:

A visit to the tourist info centre in Brodick is recommended. The island may only be small but it packs in a lot for the tourists.

Great location. Lovely suite. Only slight criticisms would be lack of heating/heated towel rail in bathroom and plug sockets very difficult to reach as they're (with one exception) behind items of furniture. Great breakfast. Evening menu in restaurant appears to be tailored to the hotel's main clientele and perhaps could do with having a little wider appeal.

Tips:

Lots to see on Arran (if the weather is good)

I only have one complaint, the shower tray in our en-suite was very slippy & their was no shower mat to put down so we had to use one of the hand towels. I should have made you's aware of it on our first night but we forgot. As a person with mobility problems I did find it dangerous as I was frightened I would slip & fall.

Tips:

Lamlash as some of the most beautiful scenery in Scotland, in fact the whole island is just stunning it would be very hard pick out any one place. I would just tell anybody to explore the whole island.

Owner Response:

Dear Guests, We are sorry that you found the shower to be slippy and would have provided a shower matt if you had asked. The shower tray was installed just over a year ago and the new designs are supposed to be anti slip. We do take all feedback seriously though and will look into the matter. We are glad that you enjoyed your stay and that despite this you still ranked us highly. We do hope you will return and stay again soon.

The owners are very people friendly and treat the guests like friends. The food is quite good. The rooms and public areas are clean and tastefully decorated. The hotel is dog friendly.

Tips:

You can see the whole island by buses and the schedules are such that you can can change buses with little or no down time. It will take all day to ride all 3 bus routes to see the island. Your day will only allow about 1 stop. There is almost 2 hours between buses if you hop off to visit a town or the distillery. Allow 2 days to see more of the island by bus. Some of the roads are quite narrow so in our opinion the bus makes less stressful trip.

If you want a tranquil holiday and love hill walking, Arran is the place to go. If you want a GREAT hotel to stay in, this is the place. VERY friendly and informative staff, and a feelgood factor throughout. Lovely well kept rooms. Great breakfasts and evening meals. Extremely dog friendly (you have to have breakfast and meals with a dog in the bar - but it is not a bar, it is more a lounge). I rate this hotel very highly. Book directly, not through an agent and save £££).

Tips:

As I said previously, Arran is a tranquil island. You can actually HEAR silence. It has great dog walks (some can be steep) but there is not much to do to amuse teenage kids and there is zero nightlife (but isn't that why you wanted away?) Pub lunches are a rare commodity, but the Old Pier Cafe in Lamlash is an excellent (dog friendly) place to have a big lunch or light main meal. There is a fair sized co-op in the village for general shopping. Best evening meal place in Lamlash is the hotel that bears its name - book in advance to ensure a table.

This has become our favourite hotel and place to stay. We have stayed in many others. The location is well placed. Lamlash is well served and convenient. The staff are welcoming, knowledgeable and provide excellent service.

Tips:

The hotel restaurant is the best in our humble opinion. There are alternatives, the PHT for pub grub or the Drift Inn for more up market (& price). A trip over to Holy Isle is worthwhile. You can enjoy the seclusion, peace and tranquilty or climb over the top or more leisurely round the coast. The bus service will take you anywhere. Whiting Bay, Kildonan and Blackwaterfoot are quaint and picturesque. If you have transport, Arran is good for two and four wheels, the Ross ans String roads will take you through fantastic scenery to the other side of the island. If you’re up for it Goat Fell (not quite a Munro) is well worth it. Although, with the exception of this summer, they say “if you can see the mainland it is going to rain and if you can’t, it is raining”! If you’re in to it, the brewery and cheese shop, just north of Brodick are worth a visit. The Brodick Bar is good value for money and very popular.

3rd July 2018:

As our chosen base for a one-week holiday we couldn't have anticipated a more professional yet friendly hotel in a more delightful setting. Having a spectacular and endlessly fascinating view of Lamlash Bay and the Holy Isle, our room also enjoyed a low-key contemporary look without feeling corporate, a comfy bed, plenty of storage space and a spotlessly clean en-suite shower room. Housekeeping matters were attended to with care and a sense of pride. The restaurant provided a flexible selection of the usual breakfast goodies while the dinner menu, without any pretensions towards fine dining, offered sufficient enticements for us to dine in more than we dined out. All of the staff were courteous, friendly and professional and whilst, of course, courting and accommodating visitors to the island, the hotel still manages to balance those aims with the needs of customers within its own community.

Tips:

One week is not enough to have experienced all that Arran has to offer but worthwhile outings included a visit to the Arran Heritage Museum in Brodick, walks to King's Cave and the Machrie Standing Stones, and a boat trip to the Holy Isle. Drumadoon Bay offers acres of sparsely-populated sandy beach. For a light fishy lunch with a difference (portions aren't vast) try Mara in Corrie, whilst either Cafe Thyme (at the Old Byre) twixt Machrie and Pirnmill, or the Coffee Pot in Whiting Bay, will fill any remaining space with a decent hunk of cake (but beware - some of the island's "tearooms" seem to close at 4pm or 4:30pm, ie teatime!). Most of the main villages provide public loos which are now run by volunteers since the (short-sighted!) Council withdrew funding, so please take some change with you as donations are vital to maintain these essential facilities!

Owner Response:

Dear Guest, Thank you for staying with us and thank you for your recommendation. Regarding the price, please be aware that on the one hand it is always cheaper to book a property directly rather than through a general booking website where the properties have to pay large commission. On the other hand the business environment is such that the hotel/restaurant industry is under immense pressure on their pricing. In fact the local councils have increased business rates on the tourism industry by close to 100%, not to mention the yearly increases in energy, food, wages etc. All in all we are forced to increase our prices continually and believe us when we tell you that we work very hard to deliver the best value for money as we continually challenge our current suppliers as well as source new ones for the best prices possible so as to minimise any price increases for our customers.

Really enjoyed my first visit to the hotel. All the staff were lovely and so helpful. Great food, lovely clean room and dog friendly. Loved staying in room 1 with the balcony as the weather was fabulous during my stay and was also great for my dog. Thank you for making me so welcome and for introducing me to Graham Norton wine!

Tips:

Would definitely recommend. Worth spending extra money for room with balcony. Great food and an early bird offer between 5 & 6pm. Lovely hotel with great customer service and genuinely dog friendly.

29th May 2018:

This is a family run small hotel that offers most everything you might require for an overnight stay, as well as an extended stay. The rooms are large and well appointed and the beds are very comfortable. The owners and staff are wonderfully pleasant and accommodating. The food is excellent and priced fairly. The property includes a cozy pub (bar) and there is a grocery store next door. All in all, this is where we will be staying when we return to the Isle of Arran!

Tips:

You can explore the entire island coastline utilizing the bus system by purchasing a "Day Pass" that allows you to hop on and off as often as you like. The price is very reasonable. If you wish to explore the interior of the island then MOGABOUT (a multi-passenger all-wheel drive vehicle and guide) is the answer. There are so many things and sites to see on Arran that serious planning and detailed scheduling would be wise.

We really enjoyed our stay at the hotel and all our needs where catered for. My only problem would be how slippy the bathroom floor comes when you get out of the shower and the ne floor mat doesn't really get you out of the bathroom when you have children as my daughter fell straight on her back on bathroom just missing the sink with her head. We solved this by using more towels on the floor to cover it. We would stay again and look forward to it when we visit.

Tips:

The hotel has fabulous views across the bay, it is located in a great area with plenty to see and do. We enjoyed taking an evening stroll along the shore line. Would highly recommended.

24th May 2018:

The hotel is centrally located, 2 minutes from the shore and 1 minute from bus stops. All staff were friendly and helpful. The room was spotlessly clean, nicely furnished and comfortable. Wi-Fi was available, together with a television and tea making facilities. The restaurant was bright, spacious, clean and well staffed. Breakfast was freshly cooked, ample and tasty. This is an excellent centre for exploring Arran.

Tips:

Golfers would find the Lamlash Golf Course an interesting challenge. A trip on the ferry to Holy Island is very worthwhile since the island presents either a climb for a fabulous view or a walk to the lighthouse at the south end. It is also possible to walk to Brodick along the shore, but wear boots as the north end of the walk is over boulders, or up a cliff path.

We had a great stay in the hotel, the staff were friendly and helpful and the service and the food in the restaurant was very good. the hotel is in a great position and the views around the bay are very good. We would have no hesitation in recommending this hotel, and we will be back in the near future.

Tips:

We enjoyed the walk from Lamlash to brodick around the coast. The path splits 1/2 way round. We took the coastal path. It's not too difficult but parts are boggy and you need to watch your footing. Also the Glenashdale Falls and the Giant's Graves walk in Whiting Bay is a nice short walk with great views.

9th May 2018:

We did a mini tour of the isles and breakfast was by far the best from cereal choices in boxes, the porridge and the freshness of the cooked options. The evening meal options were a good mix with relatively short waiting time and I did wonder why there was not an all in option, DB+B. All of the staff were friendly and the level of service was great. Our room was spot on too. There is an element of eccentricity about the place. Don't lose it.

Tips:

You can walk along the beach for quite a distance and on the coast path towards Brodick you will see seals. With a basic grasp of bus timetables you can tour the whole island from right outside the hotel. Walking up to the summit of Goat Fell is a typically holiday sort of thing to do but allow plenty of time, pack some water and take a snack even if you have just downed the Lamlash breakfast. Flip flops are for the insane and stupid. Something that requires very little planning is acquiring a pint of Arran Blonde, strolling thirty yards to a bench and gazing across the bay to Holy Island. Chardonnay also works.
